Oscars 2022 Set To Have a Host After a Gap of 3 Years

The Oscars 2022 will finally have a host this year after a gap of almost three years since the 2018 awards as announced by broadcaster ABC.

The 94th Academy Awards are scheduled to be held on 27th March 2022 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California.

Craig Erwich, president of Hulu Originals & ABC Entertainment, made the announcement on Tuesday during the Television Critics Association winter press tour. He shared that the Oscars 2022 ceremony will have a formal host.

“You heard it here first, I can confirm that this year’s Oscars will have a host,” Erwich said.

However, when he was asked who would be the emcee of the grand award event, he said, “It might be me.”

He also spoke about the Oscars executive producer Will Packer and said that more details would be shared soon.

“Will really has his pulse on popular culture and entertainment. I know he has a lot in store and we’ll have more details to share soon,” he further said.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel was the last person who took care of the host responsibilities as he was the emcee of the Oscars in 2017 and 2018.

Kevin Hart was supposed to host the Oscars 2019 event. However, he had to step back owing to backlash over past homophobic tweets. Ultimately, that year, the awards show was held without a host.

Speaking about other hosts who emceed the Oscars earlier are Chris Rock in 2016, Neil Patrick Harris in 2015, Ellen DeGeneres in 2014, Seth MacFarlane in 2013, Billy Crystal in 2012, and James Franco/Anne Hathaway in the year 2011.

Coincidentally, there was an increase in ratings of the 2019 Oscars in comparison to the previous year. As such,  the Academy and ABC took a call to go without a host next year in 2020. However, then there was a fall in ratings.

Added to this, last year the 2021 Oscars that were held at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles were delayed due to COVID-19. The event was again held without a host and there was a gradual fall in the ratings as the event lost over half of its expected audience.

ABC also announced on Tuesday that Glenn Weiss is set to direct the Academy Awards for the seventh consecutive year.

The Oscars 2022 will be presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) which would honor the best films that got released between March 1 – December 31, 2021.

This year’s Oscars will be aired live on March 27th via ABC and broadcast outlets in over 200 territories across the globe.

The films that were shortlisted to get into Oscar nominations in ten categories have already been revealed on 21st December 2021. Nominations will be out on 8th February 2022.

The Oscars 2022 will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.

Wel will be sharing the nominations and more updates of the upcoming Oscars 2022. Stay tuned!
