Naomi Judd’s Daughters Wynonna and Ashley Kept Out of Her $25 Million Will

Country singer Naomi Judd, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot in April this year, left control of all her fortune and estate to her husband, Larry Strickland. Before her tragic death, the legendary singer had a fortune of $25 million.

As per official records, Naomi made no mention of her daughters Wynonna or Ashley in the will. Wynonna and Ashley are daughters of Naomi from her first marriage. Read on to know more details about the development.

Wynonna is Reportedly Upset at her Mother’s Decision

The official document of the late singer’s will reads, “I nominate and appoint my spouse, Larry Strickland, as Executor of my estate. In the event my spouse ceases or fails to serve, then I nominate and appoint my brother-in-law, Reginald Strickland, and Daniel Kris Wiatr as Co-Executors. I direct that no bond shall be required of my Executor.”

Naomi and Larry had been married for 33 years before the tragic demise of the singer. They got married in May 1989. There has been no explanation of why Naomi chose to leave her daughters out of her will.

Wynonna is said to be upset with her mother’s surprise decision to keep her out of her will. She was a part of the duo The Judds with her mother and believes that believes ‘she was a major force behind her mother’s success.’

Naomi Judd Died by Suicide in April this Year

The Grammy-winning singer died by suicide on April 30 this year after a long battle with mental illness. She was 76 years old. She died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at her home in Tennessee.

Naomi’s death was confirmed by her daughter Ashley, who opened up about the whole incident to encourage distressed people to seek help. She said in an interview, “We’re aware that although grieving the loss of a wife and a mother, we are, in an uncanny way, a public family.”

“So that’s really the impetus for this timing. Otherwise, it’s obviously way too soon. So that’s important for us to say up front. Mother used a firearm. That’s the piece of information that we are very uncomfortable sharing, but understand that we’re in a position that if we don’t say it, someone else is going to,” she revealed.

“Mom was a brilliant conversationalist, she was a star, she was an underrated songwriter. And she was someone who suffered from mental illness, you know, and had a lot of trouble getting off the sofa, except to go into town every day to the Cheesecake Factory, where all the staff knew and loved her,” she added.

The Family is Still Mourning the Singer’s Death

Wynonna and Ashley Judd, and Larry Strickland are all grieving the loss of their family member. On an episode of David Kessler’s podcast titled Healing, which aired earlier in July, Ashley talked about her recent struggle with sorrow.

Ashley, 54, who is an actress, said that her mother’s suicide was ‘unexpected and heartbreaking, and my world is turned upside down.’

She also revealed how her sister Wynonna and Naomi’s husband, Larry Strickland, are also going through an emotional phase. She said, “We have given each other the dignity and the opportunity to grieve in our distinct and respective ways.”
