My inner 7-year-old has been waiting for a doll that looked like me. Note to 7-year-old self, the wait is finally over! Actress Mindy Kaling, along with co-stars Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon’s characters from the upcoming film “A Wrinkle in Time”  have been turned into Barbies.

Mindy Kaling shared an image of the Barbie doll that was made in her character’s likeness on Instagram yesterday, leaving social media giddy with support. Looks like many inner-7-year-old South Asians rejoiced the world over yesterday!

To be fair, this isn’t Mattel’s first Indian doll. They have a line of “India Barbies” as well as a Princess of India Barbie and a Diwali Barbie. In 2010, Mattel also released a Bollywood Barbie in India that was created in the likeness of Katrina Kaif after Aishwariya Rai Bachchan passed up the offer.

In the past few years, Mattel has been working to stay relevant by creating dolls which reflect more diverse looks, ethnicity, and even, finally, body types. Their “Shero” collection is an example of their work, they’ve honored exemplary individuals like Olympic fencer Ibtihaj Muhammad with her own hijab-rocking doll in full fencing gear.

Ava DuVernay herself has been honored by Barbie’s “Shero” award with a doll in her likeness. The “Selma” director was chosen to be a part of the “Shero” collection for not only her films but her work in providing opportunities and resources to underrepresented filmmakers through her African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement.

DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time” hasn’t even released and already it is making waves with its uncommonly diverse female cast in lead roles and now, a new line of Barbies. Needless to say, Duvernay and the cast are ecstatic about the dolls coming to life.
