The “Sin City” actor slammed Amber Heard by stating that he thought Amber was only after Johnny Depp’s money in their six-week-long defamation trial. Mickey Rourke said on “Piers Morgan Uncensored”, Monday (July 10) that he got unfairly cancelled after someone’s allegations, costing him both his reputation and career. He weighed in on the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp story.
The “Angel Heart” actor said: “[I’ve known] Johnny for many years, but I don’t really know him intimately. “All I could say is, I was in a situation one time where I got blamed for something that I didn’t do. It cost me movie jobs for several years, and it caused me a bad reputation.”
It is possible that Mickey was referring to his model ex-wife Carré Otis’ who claims that he was abusive and had threatened to kill himself if she did not marry him. They were married from 1991 to 1999. He continued by saying:
“Finally, the truth came out, but the truth came out after I lost movies and I lost jobs, and so I felt bad for somebody that is trying to get chopped down by some gold digger. When asked if he thinks Amber is a gold digger, Mickey replied, “Abso-f–king-lutely. Absolutely.”
What’s Happening After The Verdict?
The Virginia court found Amber Heard guilty of three defamation claims filed by her ex-husband after she detailed her experiences as a domestic violence survivor in a 2018 op-ed. The “false” article cost Johnny, both, his career and reputation. However, in an explosive six-week court hearing, a judge determined statements about her marriage were “false” and that she had acted with “actual malice”.
Amber was ordered to pay her ex-husband US$10.35 million in damages of the USD$50 million he sought. Yesterday, a Virginia judge rejected a 43-page document, submitted to the Fairfax County Circuit Court on Friday, demanding a new trial for the verdict to be “set aside”.
Amber’s lawyers argued that the $10.35 million award was “inconsistent and irreconcilable” with the conclusion that she and Depp had defamed one another. “The juror was vetted, sat for the entire jury, deliberated and reached a verdict,” Judge Azcarate wrote in a statement on Wednesday (July 12).
The judge concluded by writing, “The only evidence before this court is that this juror and all jurors followed their oaths, the court’s instructions and orders. This court is bound by the competent decision of the jury.” As for Amber Heard, she is planning to appeal against the verdict as she cannot afford to pay Johnny.
