Following the death of the beloved Queen on Sept. 8, 2022, King Charles III (74) was declared the King of the United Kingdom on September 10. Since then, Britain has waited for the official coronation of their king, which will take place on May 6, 2023.
The world would also be looking at Queen Camilla (75), who’d be crowned on the same day. As the clock ticks, world leaders, royals and celebrities from around the globe are gearing up for the United Kingdom’s most pious event. Here’s a list of the guests who are expected at the gala weekend.
From The Royal Family
From a star-studded concert to; nationwide “big lunch” royal procession, the three-day coronation weekend would serve as a chance for “people to come together in celebration of the historic occasion”. Well, the royal family members wouldn’t miss the big day for the world.
It has been confirmed by Buckingham Palace that King Charles and Camilla will have “eight Pages of Honour” that will attend the ceremony, which included George. Prince William, Princess Kate and their three children will also be in attendance. Other royal members on the guest list include:
- Princess Anne and her husband, Sir Timothy Laurence
- Anne’s son, Peter Phillips and his sister, Zara Tindall along with her husband, Mike Tindall.
- Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank
- Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi
- Charles’ brother, Prince Andrew, Duke of York may attend, but not in a “ceremonial role” as he is not a working royal.
Queen Camilla’s Side
Queen Camilla will have her family members and family. She decided to include her own Pages of Honour: her three grandsons and her great-nephew (they’d be thrust with official duties for the first time).
Will Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Attend?
The bigger question is whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attend or not! Well, we all know the answer. It’s hard to expect this couple at the wedding, considering what went down in the past few months.
From making startling revelations in their bombshell Netflix documentary to making heavy claims against the royal members in Prince Harry’s “Spare”, Harry and Meghan have been in a long-standing feud with the royals. Even though no official announcement has been made about their attendance, multiple reports previously claimed that the two haven’t been invited.
However, it has been now confirmed that Harry and Meghan have both been asked to attend, but they have not yet accepted their invitations. But again, fans believe that the two would still make it.
“I can confirm the duke has recently received email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation,” a spokesman for the royal family revealed. He added that a decision would “not be disclosed at this time”
Who’s Coming From H-Town?
Many celebrities would be in attendance from Hollywood. This includes the power couple, David and Victoria Beckham. The couple has a long-standing relationship with the royal family and were present at various occasions like Queen Elizabeth’s jubilee and Prince William and Prince Harry’s weddings.
Besides them, actress Sandra Oh would be present as a part of the Canadian delegation. She would be playing the same role when she attended the Queen’s funeral. Interestingly, Man vs. Wild star Bear Grylls will also be present.
From The Political World
Even though President Joe Biden received the invite to King Charles’ coronation, he confirmed to His Majesty in a phone call that he would not be attending the Coronation. FYI, his wife, Jill Biden would be representing him at the prestigious ceremony.
The new First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf has confirmed that he would attend the ceremony. But again, things are not the same at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral and a very small minority of politicians are invited to the coronation.
A Long List Of Foreign Royals
The centuries-old convention stated that a coronation should be a sacred ceremony between a monarch and their people in the presence of God. But, King Charles is all set to do away with this tradition as he invited members of foreign royal families, making it a historic move.
A source revealed in an interview: “I believe the rule began because a Coronation is meant to be a monarch’s private event with God. At the Queen’s Coronation there were no crowned monarchs, only the protectorate rulers like the Queen of Tonga. It’s been a tradition for centuries.”
The guest lists of royal members include royals like, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, the King and Queen of Spain, Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece, and Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco.
It’s worth mentioning the invitation. Per the release, Buckingham Palace confirmed that the monarch’s wife will soon be known as queen, rather than the current “queen consort”. The coronation ceremony’s invitation is designed by manuscript illuminator Andrew Jamieson. The “Green Man” figure from the folklore symbolizes “spring and rebirth”.
While the Queen’s funeral was crammed with over 8,000 guests, King Charles decided to cut down the guest list to around 2,000. The ceremony will take place at Westminster Abbey, London and would be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
