You must have seen Khloé Kardashian sporting a bandage on her face in recent pictures, and wondered why? Well, the reason is more severe than we could have ever thought. The 38-year-old reality star recently underwent a surgical procedure after being diagnosed with melanoma, a rare and aggressive type of skin cancer. Read on to learn all about Khloé’s condition.
Glad They Caught It On Time…
On Tuesday, Khloé Kardashian shared a series of Instagram stories, showing close-up pictures of her cheek. The 38-year-old reality star revealed that sometime back, she noticed a small bump on her face and thought of it as a minor zit. However, it didn’t budge after seven months so she finally decided to get it biopsied.
The two biopsies from separate doctors revealed that the bump was “incredibly rare” for someone of her age, and turned out to be melanoma, a rare and aggressive type of skin cancer. “The Kardashians” star was instructed to get it removed surgically.
Khloé Kardashian recently underwent a surgical procedure to get the cancer scar removed from her face. The surgery was performed by Beverly Hills surgeon Dr. Garth Fisher, who is also a close family friend.
“I called none other than Dr. Garth Fisher, a dear friend of my family, and one of the best surgeons in Beverly Hills who I knew would take incredible care of my face. “I’m grateful to share that Dr. Fischer was able to get everything — all my margins appear clear and now we are onto the healing process,” she mentioned in her Instagram stories.
Well, that’s the reason why we’d continue to see her bandages, which would later leave a scar (an indentation in the cheek from the tumor being removed). She wrote in good spirits, “I hope you enjoy how fabulous I’m making these face bandages look.”
Not The First Time For Khloé…
In her Instagram stories, where Khloé is spreading valuable information about this condition, the reality star also mentioned that she previously suffered from a similar condition. At the age of 19, Khloé was diagnosed with melanoma in the back and got it surgically removed. Even though she is “pre-composed” to melanomas, it is advised for everyone to get frequent checkups in case of such bumps.
Khloé wanted to share her condition in order to spread awareness among the masses. She asked her fans to take things seriously and take “self-examinations and annual checkups” as a timely diagnosis is the essence of its treatment.
If you aren’t aware, Melanoma is a serious type of skin cancer, which develops in the cells that produce melanin (the pigment that gives skin its color). The condition can also form in the eyes, nose, throat or rarely inside the body.
The exact cause of melanomas isn’t clear but extensive research reveals that it is caused due to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight. Well, that’s one reason why Khloé revealed that she wears sunscreen every single day. We wish Khloé a speedy recovery and a healthy life ahead. If you’re suffering from any such bumps, it’s time to hit the doctor today! Stay alert, and know your body.
