Joy Behar Reveals She ‘Almost Died’ from Ectopic Pregnancy in 1979

Joy Behar is spilling the beans on a pregnancy that almost took her life. Not long ago, the American comedian shared her thoughts on Kansas voters preserving abortion rights during an episode of the talk show The View.

In the Wednesday episode of the show, Joy and her co-stars voiced their opinions on  Kansas voters preserving abortion rights and Behar disclosed a pregnancy story of hers. Keep scrolling further to learn how Joy’s ectopic pregnancy nearly took her life.

Joy Behar recalled that ectopic pregnancy almost took her life

In the Wednesday episode of the show, The View, Behar and her co-hosts were discussing Kansas voters preserving abortion rights, and the ongoing national debate after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, removing the constitutional right to an abortion.

In the episode, Behar told her co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sunny Hostin, and Sara Haines, “In 1979 I had an ectopic pregnancy. I almost died.”

The TV personality went on to say that ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fetus starts growing in the fallopian tube. As per Mayo Clinic, an ectopic pregnancy can also occur “in other areas of the body, such as the ovary, abdominal cavity or the lower part of the uterus (cervix).”

Joy continued, “There’s nowhere to go from that. You can’t give birth from your fallopian tube and the fetus will not grow. It grows, but not to full term. So it will grow just enough to make the tube burst. What happens then, you bleed internally and then you die.”

The View host remembered being rushed to hospital, before a doctor told her the following day, “We almost lost you.” She further added, “I was in a situation where I could go to Beth Israel Hospital and they took care of it there.” When asked by guest co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, she also clarified that she did not have a miscarriage or abortion then.

Behar slammed politicians who supported the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade

Joy bashed Herschel Walker and all those Republic politicians and lawmakers who supported the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade in June.

Behar went on to say, “What are these people thinking about when they talk about the health of the mother? … People like that, they cannot be in positions of power.”

How many kids does Joy Behar have?

The former Late Night Joy host is a proud mom of one. Joy and her then-husband Joseph Behar welcomed their first and only child into the world nearly nine years after her ectopic pregnancy.

The former couple’s first child, daughter Eve joined them earthside on 26 November 1970. Eve is a ceramic artist now. Her mom Joy tried to get her into TV after she graduated from college but she told her mom showbiz wasn’t her thing. Eve is married to Alphonso Anthony Scotti.
