Johnny Depp has filed an appeal against the $2m Amber Heard verdict
Yeah, you read that right. On Wednesday, the A Nightmare on Elm Street star filed an appellate brief in Virginia’s Court of Appeals. He called the jury’s judgment to allot money to his ex-wife Amber Heard “erroneous”.
As of this moment, neither Johnny Depp nor his representatives as well as attorneys have made an official comment on this matter. Hopefully, the Hollywood actor will share more details in the times to come.
As per a report by Law & Crime, the documents submitted by The Rum Diary actor contained his reasons for appealing the part of the judgment that found that one of his lawyers, Adam Waldman, defamed his ex-wife Amber Heard, on “one” occasion.
It has also been revealed that this one instance is “solely” the reason for the filing. The documents state, “The judgment in Ms. Heard’s favor on that lone statement is erroneous.” They also claim that the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom actress case “was fatally flawed.”
Johnny Depp previously filed an appeal in July 2022
According to Hollywood Reporter, at first, Johnny filed an appeal on Friday, July 22, right after Amber filed an appeal against the $15 million defamation judgment.
It has been reported by the media outlet that these findings were based on a 2018 write-up she published in The Washington Times which revolved around her experiences with domestic violence. Let us tell you, Johnny’s name was not mentioned in the article.
Johnny and Amber’s defamation case went on earlier this year, over the months of April and May. At that point in time, the whole world was engrossed in the pair’s defamation case. By the end of the case, Depp ended up winning a large share of judgments against his ex-wife Amber Heard. The trials of their chaotic televised case took place in Fairfax, Virginia.
Let us share with you, back in the day, Amber Heard refused to take a whopping $16,000,000 as a settlement offer in her 2016 divorce from the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 star.
As per a report by The Daily Beast, documents that were discovered after their trial were not taken into consideration for the 2022 trial. The documents revealed that Amber Heard refused to take an offered multimillion-dollar payout at the end of her marriage. Then, an email from her lawyer read, “Amazingly true to your word, that this is not about the money.”
