Grammy Awards 2022 Might Get Postponed Due To Omicron Fears

The Grammy Awards 2022 are likely to get postponed due to rising COVID-19 cases and Omicron variant fears. The Recording Academy might defer the highly anticipated Grammy Awards for the second consecutive year.

Although there has been no official announcement regarding this, a source close to the matter said that it’s “looking likely.”

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony is originally scheduled to be held on 31st January 2022 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. But, now it seems it could be pushed to a further date as there has been a huge spike in the COVID-19 cases.

The Awards ceremony is set to be hosted by South African comedian Trevor Noah who also took the host responsibilities last year as well.

The Grammy Awards recognizes the best recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year. Nominees for this year were revealed earlier through a virtual live stream.

The Grammy Awards 2022 nominees were announced on Tuesday, November 23. Leading the pack of nominations is the American musician and bandleader Jon Batiste, who received 11 nominations including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Best R&B Album, Best Jazz Instrumental Album, among others.

Next in the list of nominations are Doja Cat, H.E.R., and Justin Bieber who have received eight nominations each. They are followed by Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo with seven nominations each.

Well, this would not be the first time that the Grammys have been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last year’s Grammy Awards ceremony which was originally scheduled to be held on 31st January was postponed to 14th March as there was a surge in covid cased in LA.

The makers then cited the reason for postponing the event as “the deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles”.

Not just the date, but the venue was also changed from Staples Center to the nearby Los Angeles Convention Center. This change was made to reduce the number of spectators at the ceremony.

Fulwell 73 Productions are the producers of the telecast of the Awards ceremony. Ben Winston, Jesse Collins, and Raj Kapoor are serving as executive producers whereas Jeannae Rouzan Clay is the co-executive producer.

Hamish Hamilton, who succeeded Louis J. Horvitz as director last year, is set to return as director for the second year.

Well, for now, we just need to keep our fingers crossed until there comes some official announcement about the upcoming Grammy Awards 2022 from the organizers.
