R&B singer Ginuwine fell unconscious while trying to perform a magic stunt with magician and illusionist Criss Angel. The 51 year old singer was rehearsing a stunt underwater for the CW show Magic With the Stars earlier this week when he passed out.
Ginuwine, whose real name is Elgin Baylor Lumpkin, was carried off unconscious from the scene. He has now made a complete recovery and is said to be fine. Read on to know more about the incident.
Ginuwine Passes Out During Underwater Magic Stunt
The Toxic Pony singer had volunteered for an underwater stunt for Criss Angel’s Magic With the Stars show in Las Vegas. Ginuwine was submerged in a cube filled with water and attempted to hold his breath, wanting to overcome his fear of water.
A video has surfaced online which shows the singer enclosed in a water tank. He is then seen panicking, and the crew members quickly open the tank to take him out. They then ask him if he is okay, and the singer nods before eventually passing out.
A source has revealed that an ambulance was called on the spot, and Ginuwine was carried out unconscious. The singer has now recovered fully. Despite the incident, Ginuwine went ahead with his performance on the show, receiving praise from fans.
Eye Witness Share the Details of the Incident
A source has now shared the full details of the incident, stating, “It all happened so fast, it was like he got tapped out in a fight. In the show, he was trying to overcome his fear of being underwater, as he couldn’t hold his breath for longer than 15 seconds before trying the stunt out.”
“Although he failed in rehearsals, he still went ahead with the stunt on the show and everyone was in tears,” the source added. Ginuwine’s rep has shared his health update and said, “Ginuwine is okay and he made a full recovery. He was conquering a fear. Fortunately, everything is okay as he was working with Criss Angel, who’s the best in the business.”
Meanwhile, Criss shared a teaser for Magic With the Stars on his Instagram handle, on which Ginuwine commented, “My folks 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌.” It is yet unclear whether he made the comment before or after the incident.
Criss Angel also Faced a Similar Accident a Few Years Back
Magician Criss Angel also faced a similar accident and passed out during a stunt in 2017. He was trying an upside-down straitjacket escape, but lost consciousness and had to be rushed to a hospital.
“This is real. I blur the line between reality and illusion but this demonstration and the risks that are at stake are no joke. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and for me it’s always about pushing my envelope,” he said after recovering. A day later, he returned to perform the same stunt on stage.
Magic With the Stars is all set to premiere on Oct. 22 on The CW. The show will feature celebrities training and performing magic stunts with Angel, who will be joined by Loni Love and magician Lance Burton as judges.
