Dua Lipa gets sued for posting pap shots on Instagram for the second time in a year
The Don’t Start Now singer has been sued for sharing paparazzi pictures of herself on the social networking platform Instagram. As per the court documents that have been filed in U.S. District Court in California. This time, Robert Barbera, a New York-based photographer is suing the rock star.
The photographer is claiming that Dua Lipa committed copyright infringement after she posted a few pictures of herself taken by him in July of 2018 on Instagram.
What did Robert’s attorney have to say about the entire situation?
The complaint against Dua Lipa has been filed by Robert’s lawyer, Craig Sanders, that reads, “Without permission or authorization from Plaintiff, Defendant volitionally selected, copied, stored and displayed each of Plaintiff’s copyright protected Photographs.”
Let us tell that the photos that have been posted by the New Rules singer were taken way back in the year 2018 and they were also attached as a testimony to the suit filed against Dua Lipa.
In the photos shared by Dua on the social media platform Instagram, Dua can be seen in a black sweater that has the word ‘HEROES’ on it in large capital letters.
When we talk about the previous lawsuit that was filed against the British singer, it was brought by a company called Integral Images, and Barbera stated that due to the fact Lipa uses her Instagram account to promote her music, brand, and business interests. She gets benefitted from posting his copyrighted photos there and harmed the “potential market” for them.
The complaint further reads, “Upon information and belief, the Infringements increased traffic to the Account and, in turn, caused Defendant to realize an increase in the revenues generated via Defendant’s promotional events and the sale of Defendant’s musical works.”
Robert Barbera has had a long history of filing suits against celebs
Yes, you heard it right. This is not the first time that Robert Barbera has filed a lawsuit against a celeb from the world of music for posting his photos to their social accounts.
In May of 2019, Barbera filed a lawsuit against the Thank U, Next singer Ariana Grande for sharing photos he took of her on Instagram. He filed another similar type of lawsuit against the singer in January 2020. The final verdict of both the cases was that they were dismissed by the court.
Robert also sued the What Do You Mean singer Justin Bieber for the same reason in October 2019. That case was also settled quickly by the court.
