The Emmy-winning actress is facing a grim prognosis after getting in a tragic road accident a few days ago. Anne Heche’s family released a statement to update her fans and well-wishers about her condition.
Her car crashed into a two-story home in Los Angeles. The accident was being investigated as a felony for driving under influence. It was assumed that she was driving under the influence of alcohol when she met with the accident.
However, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) told TMZ that they found cocaine and fentanyl in her blood sample after she got admitted to a hospital.
She had “a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention”. Since a little after her accident almost a week ago, Heche did not regain consciousness.
TMZ reported that the Volcano actress was speeding in her mini cooper before she crashed the car into a garage and then a house. This crash ignited a fire that severely burned her before she was rescued. The house was left “uninhabitable” after her car drove around 30 ft (9.1 meters) into the house.
Heche’s Family Statement
Heche’s family released a statement to update her well-wishers and fans about her condition. A representative on behalf of the family said “Unfortunately, due to her accident, Anne suffered a severe anoxic brain injury and remains in a coma, in critical condition.”
He also added the tragic prognosis that “she is not expected to survive.”
Her wish to donate her organs for a bigger cause was also revealed. The rep said “It has long been her choice to donate her organs and she’s being kept on life support to determine if any are viable.”
Along with the update about Heche’s health, the statement also thanked her well-wishers for the “kind wishes and prayers” for the 53-year-old.
It also thanked the “dedicated staff and wonderful nurses that cared for Anne at the Grossman Burn Center at West Hills hospital”.
After the news of her accident spread, Heche’s partner of more than 10 years shared a picture of them along with their 13-year-old son and wrote “Thoughts and prayers for this lovely woman, actress and mother tonight Anne Heche.” He concluded it with “We love you”. The couple split back in 2018.
Her ex-boyfriend Thomas Jane also offered his thoughts and support. Heche has another 20-year-old son from her marriage to Coley Laffoon.
The troubled star was busy with several projects in the pipeline in recent months. She had just wrapped up the shooting of Girl in Room 13, which is set to premiere this fall. She was also set to appear opposite Dermot Mulroney in the horror thriller Full Ride.
Apart from this, she also had a recurring role in All Rise and was going to premiere Idol. Heche was last seen in the psychological thriller The Vanished and the thriller 13 Minutes.
People close to her and her well-wishers are still hopeful for a miraculous recovery and possible good news. The news of her accident has certainly been a wake up call for many.
