Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Eldest Son Critically Ill
Andrew Lloyd Webber shared a heart-wrecking statement on Saturday (March 18) about his eldest son, Nicholas Lloyd Webber (43). The 74-year-old musician announced his son is “critically ill” and fighting gastric cancer for 18 months.
“I am absolutely devastated to say that my eldest son Nick is critically ill,” the EGOT winner wrote. As my friends and family know, he has been fighting gastric cancer for the last 18 months and Nick is now hospitalized.”
The English composer also noted that he will be skipping the opening night of his new Broadway musical, “Bad Cinderella”, scheduled on March 23 in NYC as he decided to stay beside Nicholas in these troubled times.
“I, therefore, have not been able to attend the recent previews of ‘Bad Cinderella’ and as things stand, I will not be able to cheer on its wonderful cast, crew and orchestra on Opening Night this Thursday,” Andrew continued in his statement.
“We are all praying that Nick will turn the corner. He is bravely fighting with his indomitable humor, but at the moment my place is with him and the family.” Andrew shares Nicholas with his ex-wife Sarah Hugill. They were married for 12 years before getting a divorce in 1983. The former couple also has a daughter, Imogen Lloyd Webber.
More About Nicholas Lloyd Webber…
Nicholas Lloyd Webber is the son of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sarah Hugill. The 43-year-old artist has been following in his father’s footsteps for years. He was nominated for a Grammy after scoring the original cast recording of “Cinderella” in 2021. He also scored the BBC one series “Love, Lies and Records” along with the film “The Last Bus”.
The young composed previously opened up in an interview that he dropped the “Lloyd bit” of his surname in an attempt to be judged on his own merit. “For a long time, I dropped the Lloyd bit — to see what the reaction would be.”
Nicholas continued, “I got some stuff on the radio, so I thought, ‘OK, I’m obviously not a complete idiot.’ Then I thought, ‘Hang on, if other people are prepared to work with me without the surname, then maybe I should just get on with it.’” The Grammy-nominated record producer has also written music for television advertisements.
Nicholas co-produced and mixed the “Cinderella” album for Polydor Records, which went to number 1 in the official UK compilation album charts in July 2021. Despite his father’s success, Nicholas has carved a path of his own and made a name for himself in the industry.
