Will There be a Star Wars: Visions Volume 3? Future of the Anthology Series Explored

After a wait of one and a half years, Star Wars: Visions finally returned to Disney+ with its second season recently. The anthology series is known for portraying Star Wars events through the lens of the world’s best anime creators’.

The second volume featured nine short films created by animation studios from 10 different countries. Fans who have binged on the show are now demanding another season. But has Star Wars: Visions been renewed for volume 3? Read on to find out.

Is Star Wars: Visions Renewed for Volume 3?

At the time of writing, Disney and Lucasfilm have not announced the renewal of Star Wars: Visions for a third volume. The production studios will probably keep track of the viewership numbers of the second season before deciding on going ahead with another installment.

After the first volume met with an extremely positive response, the show was quickly renewed for volume 2. Executive producer James Waugh previously also revealed how the series’ fate depends on the reaction and love of the fans.

“There’s nothing planned right now. I think the approach has been let’s see what the audience thinks and let’s react from there. We’ll see what happens, let’s see how the response is this anthology,” he had said shortly after the first season premiere in 2021. So we will have to wait for the official confirmation by Disney to see if Star Wars: Vision returns with volume 3.

Fan Theory Claims the Show will Return with Another Season

While there has been no official announcement about the continuation of the series, fans are convinced that there will be another season due to a theory that has gone viral online. An eagle-eyed fan pointed out that the logo of each volume of Star Wars: Visions is following a color scheme that will probably conclude with a trilogy.

The theory claims that the show is drawing parallels with the recently released film trilogy, as both The Force Awakens and Visions Volume 1 are in blue, and The Last Jedi and Visions Volume 2 are in red. Going by the trend, the show will have another volume with a yellow logo, in parallel with The Rise of Skywalker.

“With Volume 1 of Star Wars: Visions being blue and Volume 2 being red, I think it just makes perfect sense for Volume 3 to be yellow, assuming it gets made,” reads the tweet. The theory might seem interesting, but the final decision still lies with Disney.

Executive Producers Tease Potential Animation Style in Volume 3

Waugh, along with fellow executive producer Josh Rimes talked about the potential volume 3 and revealed that they would like to explore puppetry-style animation if the show gets renewed. After exploring anime and stop-motion techniques in the first two seasons, Waugh said he would like to see a Muppets-like animation in the third volume.

“This is a canvas that can really explore all those different things. There’s really great stuff going on in the world right now. I’ve joked with them both, but I mean it, I’ve sent them some of the work of this DJ, kid Koala, who puts on a puppet show, it’s really incredible. So, could Visions sustain something like that? Maybe. I think it’s all open at this point,” he added.

Star Wars: Visions volumes 1 and 2 are streaming on Disney+. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
