Sweet Tooth, the highly successful fantasy drama on Netflix recently returned with its second season after a wait of two years. The show, based on the comic book of the same name written by Jeff Lemire, revolves around a dystopian world where part-human and part-animal hybrid babies are born after the collapse of civilization.
The eight-episode second season premiered on April 27th and was watched by nearly 50 million viewers in the first four days of its release. Netflix has now announced an important update about the future of the series. Read on to find out.
Will Sweet Tooth Return with Season 3?
Sweet Tooth fans will be excited to learn that the series has been renewed for a season 3 by Netflix. The streaming platform announced the news on May 3rd, revealing that the upcoming season will be the final one and the show will conclude with it. The final season will feature eight episodes and will be launched sometime in 2024.
Showrunner Jim Mickle revealed that he always wanted to tell the story in three seasons. “In a lot of ways, it’s exactly the story that I imagined we would tell, and in a lot of ways it takes on its own life. At the beginning, I think you set out to tell these landmark pieces of Gus’ story and the big pieces of the comic book,” he said.
“But the beauty of long-form storytelling and Gus’ journey over 24 episodes is the characters themselves tell you what they want to be. The crew and cast bring so much depth and point of view to who the characters are and where they’ve come from and where they’re going,” Mickle added.
What will Sweet Tooth Season 3 be About?
Teasing season 3, Mickle revealed, “[It’s] another road trip story like Season 1, but in a very different way. Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn’t see in Season 1 or 2.”
He also stated that the new season will be darker than the previous one. “Gus is growing alongside the series, starting to mature as the themes get darker. There’s a lot he has to deal with, and it’s peak Sweet Tooth intensity. In Season 3, everybody is dealing with some kind of wound or emotional loss, whether that was somebody in their life or a part of themselves.”
Who will Star in Sweet Tooth Season 3?
The upcoming season will see two new additions to the cast: Cara Gee will join the show as Siana and Ayazhan Dalabayeva will star as Nuka. Meanwhile, the main cast will reprise their roles, including Nonso Anozie as Tommy Jepperd, Christian Convery as Gus, Adeel Akhtar as Dr. Aditya Singh, and Stefania LaVie Owen as Bear.
The cast also includes Dania Ramirez as Aimee Eden, Aliza Vellani as Rani Singh, James Brolin as the narrator, Naledi Murray as Wendy, Neil Sandilands as General Abbot, and Marlon Williams as Johnny Abbot. Rosalind Chao and Amy Seimetz who starred in recurring roles as Mrs. Zhang and Birdie respectively, have been promoted to series regulars.
