Netlifx recently came up with a new dark comedy series based on a fresh concept. Titled Beef, the show follows two individuals, Danny and Amy, who are involved in road rage and how their heightened emotions begin to consume them and affect their relationships with their family and friends.
The ten-episode season premiered on the streaming platform on April 6th. Audiences who have binged on the season have appreciated the storyline and the performances of the cast and do not seem to get enough of the series. People are now wondering if and when there will be another season of Beef. Well, read on to find out.
Beef Season 2: Renewal Status
At the time of writing, Netflix has not announced the renewal of the series for a second season. However, it is still pretty early to judge the fate of the show as the streaming platform will analyze the performance of the first season for a few weeks or months before deciding to go ahead with the series.
On the plus side, series creator Lee Sung Jin has expressed his interest in continuing the series. However, he also revealed that he wants to make the show an anthology with a new storyline in each season. “Cards on the table, we did pitch this show as a limited anthology, so there is sort of a close-ended-ness to the story [of Danny and Amy],” Lee said.
However, he also added that he would want further to explore the characters of Danny and Amy if he gets the opportunity. “But, if given the opportunity, of course, I’d love to explore them further, because Danny and Amy, I love those characters. But yeah, by design, though, this a close-ended narrative,” the creator said.
Beef Season 2: Potential Release Date and Storyline
The first season of the show was ordered by Netflix in 2021, and filming began in 2022. Now that things are already in place, we can expect the second season to premiere by mid-2024. The release timeline seems plausible if the script is finalized in the next few months. That being said, we would still have to wait for the renewal confirmation from Netflix.
As for the storyline, the first season ended with a major cliffhanger. Without giving any spoilers, we can say that the second installment could pick up directly after the events of the finale and reveal the fate of one very important character.
On the other hand, as Lee has already expressed his interest in an anthology, the show could very well focus on a new storyline with new characters as well. “Yeah, that was the initial pitch. I think in my 45-minute PowerPoint there were multiple other beefs and other character types to explore. We’ll see,” Lee stated.
Beef Season 2: Expected Star Cast
If the makers decide to go ahead with the story of Danny and Amy, the main cast members are expected to reprise their roles in the second season. These include Steven Yeun as Danny Cho, Ali Wong as Amy Lau, Joseph Lee as George Nakai, Young Mazino as Paul Cho, David Choe as Isaac Cho, and Patti Yasutake as Fumi Nakai.
The series could also see the return of Ashley Park as Naomi, Mia Serafino as Mia, Remy Holt as June Nakai, Maria Bello as Jordan, Justin H. Min as Edwin, Andrew Santino as Michael, and Rekstizzy as Bobby. However, we would get to see an entirely different cast if the creators go the anthology way and feature a new storyline in season 2.
