Why Is Hoda Kotb Not On The Today Show? She’s Been Missing For A Real Reason

Hoda Kotb, the beloved co-host of the “Today Show,” has been missing from the show for a while now. While viewers have been speculating about her absence, there is a genuine reason why she isn’t on the front right now.

She recently revealed that she had to take time off due to her family health issues and is currently taking care of it.

She’s Been Missing From The Show For A Real Reason

It has been over a week since Hoda Kotb stopped appearing on “Today,” as she could not cope with an “inherent family health matter.” “The Today Show” co-anchor Craig Melvin explained why his colleague was absent on Wednesday morning after viewers expressed concern over his absence.

“A lot of you have been wondering how she’s doing. We can tell you that Hoda is OK. She’s got a family health matter she has been dealing with,” said Melvin.

During the 7 o’clock hour of Tuesday’s newscast, Melvin and Sheinelle Jones were on the desk simultaneously, as Savannah Guthrie was also off-air following her positive COVID-19 test on Tuesday morning.

The Last Time Kotb Appeared On Air Was On Feb. 17

Her last appearance on the show was on Feb. 17. Since then, Kotb has been posting messages of inspiration on her Instagram page about the importance of bravery, blue skies, inspiring women, hope, and miracles.

Her personal life has been an open topic on her show since the start of her career at NBC News. She has openly discussed the adoption of her daughters Hope and Haley and last year’s split between her and her ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman, to whom she has been married since 1998.

Last January, when the couple announced they had split, Kotb told ABC News that nothing had been done that led to their split and that discussing something like this publicly had been “awkward” and “weird.” The woman added that although she struggled to find the right words to convey her feelings, she knew many other women would understand what she was going through.

“I feel like often we share the joyous pieces of our life, the engagement, and all the fun … and I share the adoption of my children and all the joy and all the beautiful parts, and then the difficult parts sometimes you want to forget about. You want to erase them. You don’t want to share them because that’s not part of a pretty picture,” Kotb told reporters then.

In 1998, Kotb Became A Part Of The NBC Team

It was in 1998 that Kotb joined NBC, first as a reporter for Dateline and then as a correspondent for NBC News. As a co-host with Kathie Lee Gifford, she joined Today in April 2008 after joining the show in 2007. It was announced in 2019 that Gifford would leave the show and Jenna Bush Hager would replace her.

This year marked the beginning of Today as it is today; during this year, Bob Kotb and Savannah Guthrie were selected to co-anchor the show after anchor Matt Lauer resigned after being accused of sexual misconduct and was terminated by NBC News. During this year’s current affairs season, Kotb and Guthrie become the first female anchors to take the helm of the popular show.

In her 25 years as a broadcaster and journalist, Kotb has received many awards for her contributions to journalism and broadcasting. The award she was given for Dateline’s “The Education of Ms. Groves” in 2006 was among several accolades that Kotb received. Time Magazine recognized her as one of the top 100 most influential people in 2018.

This is an important reminder that sometimes we need to take time off to prioritize our health and well-being. We wish Hoda Kotb all the best and hope she returns soon. We pray that she will be healthy for the rest of her life. You can expect to hear more about celebrity issues from us shortly. Stay tuned.
