Sony just released a new trailer for the upcoming thriller ‘Where the Crawdads Sing.’ The movie is set for release on July 15th. It is based on a novel by the same name by author Delia Jones. The story is of a woman from North Carolina marshes who has to fend for herself after her parents leave. She becomes the love interest of Chase and Tate and later goes on to become a suspect in a man’s murder whom she was involved with.
The hype has been building around the popular book’s movie adaptation for some time now. Adding to it, Vanity released the first look of some of the actors.
Who Stars In The Movie?
The movie packs powerful performances by Edgar-Jones as the main character Kya. She is best known for her role as Marianne on Normal People. Talking about her role in the movie, she said ‘I fell so deeply in love with the world that Delia created, she has such a poetry to her writing. And her characters are so incredibly special, and deep and complex — particularly Kya, of course.’
It also stars Harris Dickinson as Kya’s friend called Tate. He is most fondly remembered for Beach Rats. The movie also stars Taylor John Smith as Chase, who is most known for his role in Sharp Objects. Chase is the ex-lover who gets murdered in the movie.
Chase also lied to Kya about marriage and tried to hurt her after she attempted to end things with him. The cast further includes David Strathairn, Garret Dillahunt, Michael Hyatt and Ahna O’Reilly.
Reese Witherspoon’s Book Club
Although already popular, the book first came into the limelight when it was picked by Reese Witherspoon for her novel club back in 2018. It so happens that Witherspoon is also one of the movie’s producers. She acquired the rights for the book shortly after. The screenplay for the movie is written by Lucy Alibar while Olivia Newman directs the movie.
