Our Wednesday Addams is finally getting her own screen space with the upcoming horror series. Here’s everything you need to know.

Netflix Bringing A New Twist To The Addams Family With “Wednesday”

The Addams Family and its sequel The Addams Family Values are famous 90s movies. They’re based on the first drawings of The Addams Family by Charles Addams, which first appeared as a single panel in the New Yorker 1938.

While there have been various attempts at presenting the morbid, aristocratic family with a lack of social awareness, Netflix is making a drastic attempt at bringing the iconic family back to the screen once again in their unique style.

The streaming giant is introducing the 19-year-old version of Wednesday with skills which has earned her quite a strong fan base and recognition, Jenna Ortega, the iconic Scream Queen, has been selected to play the death-obsessed teen in the new live-action series.

The buzz around the horror series was created back in February 2021 and now the series is finally here with some super exciting details.

When is Wednesday Releasing on Netflix?

The spookiest wishes are being taken care of this Halloween season as Netflix is gearing up for a thrilling premiere bringing Wednesday to our screens this fall. The official exact release date has not been revealed yet.

Guess, the Addams are gearing for a surprise entry to make the most of their intentions. The spin off series of the iconic franchise will deliver the eight episodes package on the streaming platform. The confirmation for a release in fall season was announced by the director, Tim Burton himself.

Netflix Released A Spooky Trailer Highlighting A Crooked Twist To The Old Story

Netflix has released the first trailer for Wednesday, Tim Burton’s take on the creepy and twisted family.

Starring Jenna Ortega as the titular character, Wednesday follows the misadventures of young Addams as she starts middle school, befriends new friends and tries to help her family honor their ancestors’ death customs in the face of life’s more modern challenges.

The trailer starts with Wednesday Addams’ dark silhouette moving through a high school hallway which is quite chirpy and happening with all the kids getting excited for their day ahead.

The trailer reveals the unidentified world of Wednesday with Burton’s eyes. It shows the life of a little girl, an outcast who never really had friends or family, hopping from school to school with no connections.

It shows that the young girl seems to be an easy target for bullies who can’t accept people who look and act differently from everybody else.

Turns out, all the children they take in already have some kind of traumatic experience behind them and Wednesday is just like any other child.

The trailer hints that the girl was expelled from her latest school for a hideous reason of releasing flesh eating fishes into the school swimming pool.

Being rejected from the traditional schooling, Wednesday gets sent to the Nevermore Academy where the OG Addams met each other for the first time.

The thought being that it’s the perfect place for an Addams, Wednesday continues to get through her education between dark and gloomy kids.

Meet the Spooky Cast

Shining in the titular role is our own Scream Queen, Jenna Ortega who plays Wednesday Addams. The casting team has done a great magic as Jenna was absolutely absorbed in Wednesday’s skin. Looking at her horror history, she comes with solid terrors in Scream movie and The Babysitter.

Joining her in the Addams Family is Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, the Matriarch of the family along with Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams in the Patriarch figure. One more prime character played by Isaac Ordonez as Wednesday’s younger sibling.

The additional cast includes Thora Birch, Riki Lindhome, Jamie McShane, Hunter Doohan, Georgie Farmer, Moosa Mostafa, Emma Myers, Naomi J. Ogawa, Joy Sunday, Percy Hynes White and Gwendoline Christie.

There is a special addition to the comedy horror series as the original Wednesday from the 90’s famous feature film, Christina Ricci will be joining as herself in the show.

The show is created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. The comedy horror is directed by Tim Burton who also serves as the executive producer alongside Alfred Gough, Miles Millar, Gail Barman, Kayla Alpert, Steve Stark, Jonathan Glickman, Andrew Mittman and Kevin Miserocchi.

What is the Series Going to be About?

The first season of Wednesday is a coming-of-age series with all the hallmarks of what you’ve come to expect from a Netflix show.

Full of fantasy, horror, mystery and, yes, comedy (and everything in between), it’s sure to keep you entertained for 8 episodes – or however long we’re allowed on Netflix.

According to the official synopsis the show will follow the chronicles of Wednesday, a girl with an emerging psychic ability and how she interacts with the world around her.

Throughout the series we see how she deals with different challenges by using her powers to solve mysteries along with managing a normal life as everyone in her school is sailing through life crises.

A refreshing take on the iconic series and film have started to be a trend for most filmmakers but this one is quite hitting the feels with the pitch perfect star cast and a unique side of the family that needs to be brought out in light.

While all of us wait for the thrilling series to hit the screens, it’ll be a nice idea to brush up on the previous feature film available to stream on Netflix.
