Netflix has come up with a new film based on the life of Australian sailor Jessica Watson, who attempted a solo global circumnavigation at the age of 16. The biopic, titled True Spirit, stars Teagan Croft in the lead and is streaming on Netflix beginning February 3.
The inspirational drama showcases some breathtaking sequences as Watson sails across the ocean. The impact of the story is further accentuated by the songs that feature in the film. Read on to know the details of the soundtrack of True Spirit.

Apart from the soundtrack, True Spirit also features an impressive background score composed by Nick Wales. The composer has previously worked on a number of feature and short films, including Step Into Paradise, Nothing to Lose, Around the Block, Bird Nerd: The Art of Leila Jeffreys, Grace, and WW1: Finding the Lost Battalions.
The Film has Received Positive Reviews So Far
True Spirit currently has an approval rating of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes, signaling positive reviews. Critics have praised the film for sending out an inspirational message in the backdrop of an entertaining screenplay.
The official synopsis of the film reads, “When Jessica Watson sets out to be the youngest person to sail solo, non-stop and unassisted around the world, she must overcome her greatest fear as she navigates the world’s most challenging stretches of ocean. Based on a true story.”
Apart from Watson, the film also stars Alyla Browne as Young Jessica Watson, Cliff Curtis as Ben Bryant, Anna Paquin as Julie Watson, Josh Lawson as Roger Watson, Todd Lasance as Craig Atherton, Bridget Webb, Vivien Turner, and Stacy Clausen.
True Spirit is directed by Sarah Spillane, who has co-written the script along with Cathy Randall and Rebecca Banner. Resonate Entertainment, The Rebel Fleet, Sunstar Entertainment, and Martin Chase Productions serve as the producers.
Talking about the project, Spillane had said in an interview, “I think I could really relate to the plight of a young girl in a somewhat male-dominated field who had a dream and was told ‘no.’ I think a lot of young people can. But despite the odds and despite the knockdowns Jessica proceeded and accomplished what many said was impossible.”
“Sailing aside, I think the essence of this story is, for me, it was incredibly inspirational and something I was really interested in exploring: how the pursuit of this dream affected Jessica and attracted the interest of so many people around the world,” she added.
