After months of anticipation, Top Gun: Maverick is finally arriving on a streaming platform. Paramount+ announced the streaming release date of the Tom Cruise film, which is the highest-grossing movie of 2022.
Top Gun: Maverick was released theatrically on May 27 this year, and fans had to go through a long waiting period to watch the film in the comfort of their homes. Continue reading to know the streaming release date of the film.
Top Gun: Maverick Streaming Release Date Announced
The film will be available to stream on Paramount+ beginning Thursday, December 22, in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, the UK and Latin America. Post that, the film will make its way to South Korea and France in 2023.
Paramount Global CEO Bob Bakish had earlier revealed that Top Gun: Maverick would arrive on Paramount+ before the end of the year. The company usually releases big films for streaming 45 days after their theatrical release.
However, since Top Gun: Maverick became the highest-grossing film of the year, Paramount decided not to rush for its streaming release and has finally zeroed down on the holiday season to launch the film on Paramount+.
Apart from Paramount+, the film also had a digital release in August this year and is now available for purchase or rent from Amazon Prime Video, YouTube Movies, and Apple TV. On November 1, it was made available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
The Film will Head to Paramount+
To watch Top Gun: Maverick, you need to subscribe to Paramount+. The streaming platform offers a seven-day free trial, post which you will be charged $4.99 a month for a plan that includes commercials. There is also a $9.99 plan that comes without commercials. Yearly plans are also available at $49.99 (with commercials) and $99.99 (without commercials).
Top Gun: Maverick will surely help the streaming platform get more subscribers. Paramount+ recently announced that they had added 4.6 million subscribers in the previous quarter, bringing their global subscribers count to 46 million.
Top Gun: Maverick Grossed $1.5 Billion Worldwide
The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, raked in $717 million at the domestic box office, becoming the fifth highest-grossing film in history. Globally, the collections stood at $1.5 billion, making the film the 11th highest-grossing movie of all time.
Top Gun: Maverick, is a sequel to Tom Cruise’s 1986 hit Top Gun and is set 36 years after the events of the original film. Produced by Paramount Pictures, Skydance, and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, it follows Maverick confronting his past as he trains a new group of younger Top Gun graduates for a dangerous mission.
Apart from Cruise as Captain Pete Maverick Mitchell, the film stars Val Kilmer as Admiral Tom, Miles Teller as Lieutenant Bradley, Jennifer Connelly as Penelope, Jon Hamm as Vice Admiral Beau “Cyclone” Simpson, Glen Powell as LT Jake, Lewis Pullman as LT Robert, Ed Harris as Rear Admiral Chester and Monica Barbaro as LT Natasha.
