Top Gun: Maverick Filming Locations Explored

Tom Cruise performing his usual dangerous stunts will always be thrilling. But it’s the locations of his movies that pique our attention too. Especially Top Gun: Maverick. Tom Cruise makes his return as Captain Pete Maverick Mitchell from the original movie.

After more than 30 years of service as one of the Navy’s leading aviators, Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is back where he belongs. Pushing the boundaries as an adventurous test pilot while avoiding advancement in positions that would ground him.

Maverick must confront the darkness of his history. And his greatest fears while training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment. Ultimately results in a task that demands the supreme sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.

This movie includes some stunning sequences, and we’d like to know where they were filmed.

Top Gun: Maverick’s Breathtaking Filming Locations

Time to explore. The movie’s production officially started on May 30, 2018, in San Diego, California. The majority of the movie’s scenes were filmed in California. There are a bunch of locations to explore. Sit tight.

A 15-person production crew from Paramount and Bruckheimer Films was onboard the ship the Norfolk-based aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in late August to capture flight deck operations.

The United States Navy’s fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). She is the Navy’s second ship called after former President Abraham Lincoln. NAS North Island in San Diego, California is her home port.

South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe is up next. It is, in fact, a California holiday resort on Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Lake Tahoe serves as the movie’s exciting climax in Top Gun: Maverick.

It is well-known for its surrounding ski resorts and beaches, such as El Dorado Beach, which has picnic areas. When it comes to stuff to do in South Lake Tahoe, you can ride down the mountain from the summit of Heavenly Mountain Resort at 10,067 feet or swim into Lake Tahoe.

South Lake Tahoe has snowy upland weather with cold winters and frequent snowfall, and summers with warm to hot days and cool temperatures with really low humidity. The ideal location, right?

Naval Air Station Lemoore

Naval Air Station Lemoore, or NAS Lemoore, is a United States Navy base in Kings and Fresno counties in California. NAS Lemoore, inaugurated in 1961, appears meaningful and continues to stand out from the farmlands of Central California, as seen from an aircraft flying above.

The facilities’ interiors have been used for scenes featuring group meetings, official dressing-downs, and bust-ups. Individuals witnessed filming in this location.

Eldorado National Forest, California, USA

Eldorado National Forest is a United States National Forest in eastern California’s central Sierra Nevada mountain spectrum. The majority of the forest has a cool mountainous Mediterranean climate, with warm, dry summers and cold, rainy winters.

El Dorado County, California, USA

El Dorado County is included in the Sacramento-Roseville-Arden-Arcade, CA Combined Statistical Area. It is entirely within the Sierra Nevada, stretching from the ancient Gold Country in the west to the High Sierra in the east.

This location’s scenes were taken from mountainous terrain and river canyons. Because of its place in Sierra Nevada, the county has spinning hills and mountainous areas.

Inyokern Airport, California, USA

This location may be familiar from the scenes with the P-51 Mustang and the music video “Hold My Hand.” What is there to say about an airport? But here’s an intriguing fact. During WWII, the US Navy used Inyokern Airport as Harvey Field, which launched on May 10, 1944.

The Indian Wells Valley Airport District owns and operates it, and it continues to serve the Indian Wells Valley area. The airport primarily serves general aviation.

Along with these locations, the movie was filmed in Los Angeles, Sierra District State Parks, Lake Tahoe Airport, and other locations.

The location appears to be spectacular. You’re welcome to share your opinions in the comments area below.
