Top Gun: Maverick Worldwide Box Office Collection

The worldwide box office of Top Gun: Maverick stands at $1.006 billion. This includes the domestic share of $521.7 million and the international collection of $484.7 million. It is the first Tom Cruise film to cross $1 billion worldwide. The film had collected $160.5 million from the domestic box office on its opening weekend.

Top Gun: Maverick had already made $900 million worldwide till last Monday. The film added another $44.5 million to its collection from the worldwide box office during the last weekend. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that the film made these collections without being released in Russia and China, two major movie markets.

The theatrical success of the film can largely be attributed to Paramount’s marketing team, as well as to Tom Cruise himself. The star ran a massive promotional drive and traveled across the world to market his film. He visited Mexico City, London, Cannes and Seoul for the promotion of the film.

Top Gun: Maverick is now the 15th Highest Grossing film in the Domestic Market

With a gross of $521.7 million, Top Gun: Maverick is now the 15th highest-grossing film of all time at the domestic box office, ranking below Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) which raked in $532 million. The film is already the highest-grossing film of the year at the domestic box office.

If the current trend continues, the film might cross $625 million by the end of its run. The movie will also have the advantage of the independence day weekend at the box office. But the business of the film might get affected by the lineup of the films releasing in upcoming weeks including Minions: The Rise of Gru and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Top Gun: Maverick is a Sequel to the 1986 hit Top Gun

The film is set 36 years after the events of the first part. The plot of the film revolves around the return of Maverick to the United States Navy Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor program, also known as TOPGUN. Maverick is supposed to train a batch of young aviators while confronting his own past.

The film was originally announced in 2010 but got shelved due to the death of the director. In 2017, the production began again but the shoot got delayed due to the pandemic in 2020. The film was finally released in theatres by Paramount Pictures on 27th May 2022. Upon its release, the film received mostly positive reviews from critics and audiences alike.
