The Witcher Season 3 Teaser and Release Date Unveiled
The clip shows a glimpse of all the major characters. The trio is seen searching for each other in the dark, meanwhile, the White Wolf talks about his fears and an encounter with a monster. Wild Hunt also make an entry, after being teased in the season 2 finale.
Much like the latest season of Netflix’s Stranger Things and You, The Witcher season 3 is being released in two parts. The first part, comprising five episodes, will premiere on June 29th. The remaining three episodes will form the second part and release on July 27th. Watch the teaser below.
Netflix has also released a synopsis for the upcoming season: “As monarchs, mages and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.”
“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”
The New Season will be the Closest Adaptation of the Books
The Witcher is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Showrunner Lauren Hissrich has revealed that the upcoming third season will be the closest adaptation of the book so far.
“What is so interesting is that season three, to me, is the closest thing that we’ve done as a one-to-one adaptation of the books. Obviously, we can’t do every page, but Time of Contempt gave us so many big action events, plot points, defining character moments, huge reveals of a big bad,” she said.
“There’s so much to do that we were able to stick really, really closely with the books. Geralt’s big turn is about giving up neutrality and doing anything that he has to do to get to Ciri. And to me, it’s the most heroic sendoff that we could have, even though it wasn’t written to be that,” Hissrich continued.
Henry Cavill will Step Away from the Show After Season 3
In October 2022, it was announced that Henry Cavill will exit from the series after season 3. The reason behind the move is still known, however, at the time, it was assumed that he left the show to continue as Superman in DCU, which is not happening anymore.
“As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men,” Cavill announced last year.
The Witcher season 3 also stars Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Ciri, Joey Batey as Jaskier, Jaskier as Mimi Ndiweni, Tom Canton as Filavandrel, Mecia Simson as Francesca, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia and Royce Pierreson as Istredd.
The Witcher seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned for more news and updates.
