The Queen’s Gambit Season 2 Ruled Out, Confirms The Director

This could probably be a piece of disheartening news for The Queen’s Gambit fans that the second season of the Netflix popular show won’t be happening. Yes, you read it right.

This has been confirmed by none other than the director of the show, Scott Frank.

Scott Frank has ruled out the second season of the show by saying that they have told the story they wanted to tell through the show.

While speaking to Deadline, the director shared his concern when a limited series show happens to be a huge hit and how it would end up if they plan to come up with next season. He is worried that they would ruin the actual story.

No Second Season for The Queen’s Gambit Series

He said, “I’m so sorry. I hate disappointing anyone, but no. I feel like we told the story we wanted to tell, and I worry — let me put it differently — I’m terrified that if we try to tell more, we would ruin what we’ve already told.”

The Queen’s Gambit is 2020 American television miniseries that premiered on Netflix. The show which is based on Walter Tevis’s 1983 book of the same name happened to be a huge hit and received critical success too.

The show features Anya Taylor-Joy portraying the role of Beth Harmon, a master chess player who creates history by entering the chess tournament at the international level which is mostly taken over by the men.

The show also features Harry Melling and Thomas Brodie-Sangster. The Queen’s Gambit hit the television screens on Netflix last year in October. In no time, it happened to be the most-watched miniseries on Netflix.

Also, at the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, the show has been successful to bag 11 Emmys in its kitty for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. It even left behind the other hit shows like ‘WandaVision’, ‘I May Destroy You’ as well as ‘The Underground Railroad’.

This raised more hopes for the fans who were expecting The Queen’s Gambit Season 2. However, now that the director clarified that there won’t be the second season, fans are certainly going to be disappointed. So are we!

Still, if you are interested in watching the team together, it would be possible as Scott Frank, executive producer William Holberg, and Anya Taylor-Joy assured their fans that they would collaborate and work on some other project.

William Horberg said, ”We’re all certainly going to keep working together and try to find another story to tell with the same passion and team of amazing artists.”

So, let us keep our fingers crossed as to what would be in store from the team for its fans in the days ahead!
