The psychological thriller series ‘The Patient’ premiered on FX on August 30, 2022, and concluded on October 25, 2022, with ten episodes. Now that ‘The Patient’ has concluded, spectators are looking forward to enjoying the series continuation.
Alan Strauss, a therapist, is held captive by a patient, Sam Fortner, who discloses himself to be a serial killer. Sam has a strange therapeutic request for Alan: stop his homicidal tendencies.
In order to survive, Alan must untangle Sam’s disturbed mind and prevent him from killing again but Sam refuses to discuss critical topics, like his mother Candace. A lot happened in the series, so let’s look at the renewal status.
Is ‘The Patient’ Renewed For A Second Season?
The Patient will most likely not return for a second season. The entire story has been completed, and the series is already labeled as a limited series or miniseries.
And in that case, we don’t usually get another season because the conclusion reveals all of it. Sometimes limited series does get renewed because of the love by the spectators but that’s likely not the scenario with ‘The Patient.’
Also, The Patient was most likely only planned to run for a single season by the network itself.
Domhnall Gleeson Addressed About The Ending Of ‘The Patient’
Gleeson said in an interview regarding the conclusion of the whole series and already hinted that we might not get another season.
“When I read it, I was like, ‘That is the only way this series can end. That is the most perfect.’ I thought they just stuck the landing. And I knew they would, but I was nervous about all sorts of different things.
I was nervous about what you said somebody like him can achieve. Like what are the limits of his capabilities? And I just thought it said so much about Steve’s character, about what it is to be alive — I thought it was really emotional, and truthful, and yet still surprising.
I thought they just kept all those balls in the air just superbly. And I thought they found a way to finish something which for a while, I was like, ‘I don’t know what the way to do this is.’”
Joel Fields mentioned that they always wanted to have smaller episodes. “Well, in its very, very, very, very, very original incarnation, it was an hour show for, I think, four to six weeks.”
He said in another interview regarding the ending, “I think there’s a multi-part answer to that. The first is this was our first instinct. Not with this exact order or detail of scenes, but the general ending. It was in the summary of the show as we first laid it out.
And from there, over the course of writing it, we considered, talked about, experimented with, and wrote every iteration we could conceive of. That was a lot of versions. But ultimately we found ourselves returning to the first one.”
