Hulu cancels ‘The Great’ after 3 seasons
We have a piece of bad news for all the fans of Hulu’s show The Great. The popular series which revolves around the rise to power of Catherine the Great, Empress of All Russia, has been canceled by the streaming platform after 3 seasons.
The Great sheds light on the life of Empress Catherine II, Russia’s reigning empress from 1762 to 1796. The show which has been created by Australian playwright Tony McNamara is based on his 2008 play of the same name.
The third season of Hulu’s show saw the light of day on May 19. In season 3 of the series, we saw Catherine (played by Elle Fanning) and Peter (portrayed by Nicholas Hoult) working on their marriage.
Why did Hulu cancel the period drama ‘The Great’ after 3 seasons?
As of this moment, the exact reason behind the cancelation of the show The Great has not been revealed publicly. Right from the start, The Great has garnered good feedback from the side of critics as well as fans.
The period drama has managed to bag seven Emmy nominations since its premiere in the year 2020. In the year 2022, the show won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Period Costumes. During the same year, Elle and Hoult earned their first nominations for headlining the comedy.
In the past, Fanning has received many accolades for her brilliant portrayal of Catherine in Hulu’s famous show The Great including a Critics Choice, a SAG, an Independent Spirit Award, as well as two Golden Globe nominations.

The Great stars Elle Fanning as Empress Catherine and Nicholas Hoult as Peter in titular roles. Along with them, the show also stars Phoebe Fox, Sacha Dhawan, Belinda Bromilow, and Bayo Gbadamosi.
The other cast members of the beloved show are as follows: Charity Wakefield, Gwilym Lee, Adam Godley, Douglas Hodge, Grace Molony, Sebastian de Souza, Freddie Fox, Florence Keith-Roach, and Danusia Samal.
Many key characters were killed in the season 3 of the show. The grand finale of the third season wasn’t exactly a cliffhanger. By the end of season 3, we get to see the tremendous growth of Catherine as a ruler. She also rocks a new hairdo in the latest season.
