The Empress Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

The Empress is a historical drama based on the life of Austrian Empress Elisabeth, starring Devrim Lingnau as the title character and Philip Froissant as Emperor Franz Joseph. The series was recently released on the streaming platform Netflix on September 29, 2022.

When rebellious Elisabeth falls in love with Emperor Franz and marries him, she arrives at a universe of strained relations and plot twists at the Viennese court.

It is directed by Katrin Gebbe and Florian Cossen and is well worth watching. Let’s see if there will be another season.

Everything We Know About ‘The Empress’ Season 2

The enthralling season one has certainly concluded, but Netflix has not announced the status of a second season. And it’s not surprising given how recently the series was released.

Before announcing another season, the streaming platform waits to see how the current one performs. However, season one ended with the possibility of a second season. The story could be expanded upon.

The first season marked the start of Elisabeth’s life. There could be multiple things covered. But for that, we need another season. And Netflix tends to renew famous shows. That means it’s time for everyone to watch.

The Story Behind ‘The Empress’ From Pages To Netflix

The series is actually based on a book written by Gigi Griffis. There’s a steamy romance that was amazing to read and is even better to watch. The author discussed the series.

The author said, “On the screen, we see the longing glances, we see the placement of bodies. We see the expressions on the actor’s faces. In the book, what you’re [getting] is what’s going through that person’s head.

What are they worried about? What are they afraid of? What are the tensions that are inherent in the decisions they’re having to make in each of these scenes.”

Caolinn Douglas added, “When you watch the series, you’re inherently kind of in the third person. You’re not able to be in their heads. We were mirroring the series, the same things had to happen, but what we could do was kind of play around with their thought processes and get to those battles they were having internally.”

They even talked about the costumes in the book and screen.

Griffis said, “That happened in edits. We went back in and made sure that the descriptions of what they were wearing and the background of the room and things like that matched up.”

Douglas remarked on the costume, “That was one of the most interesting parts of the process. We’d crafted the story, Gigi had written the whole thing from the scripts.

And then seeing those first cuts of the episodes, and [we realized] that with the music and the way the scenes cut and the way their outfits are and what they’re standing in front of — that puts a whole different tone and pace to the story.”

  1. Love this show, it’s a trifecta. It comes to a place I’ve imaginat, a triumph, an epiphany of excellence. It has held my fascination which I have been told is hard to do. Truly worth doing season 2. Please renew.

  2. Loved it! Absolutely needs another season. Kudos to whoever cast the voiceover(dub). The tone of voice and speech patterns were a good match to that of the actor being portrayed.

  3. Yes please, I inhaled this series so quick!! I’m French and grew up on the story of Sissi. I have seen the 3 original films with Romy Schneider many times and know them by heart. They are my ‘go to’ when feeling down in the dumps, or on sick duvet days. However, this series reveals other facts and I have loved every second.

I even visited Sissi’s property in Corfu.
