Taylor Swift appeared on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ to reveal all about her record-breaking album, “Midnights”, which was released on Oct. 21, 2022. The 11-times Grammy-winning star also hinted about a potential tour ahead of the success of this album. Read on to learn all about this conversation. Well, the lady hasn’t toured for four years.
‘Midnights’, An Instant Classic…
Jimmy Fallon started the conversation with Taylor Swift’s “Midnights”, which finished its first day (released on Oct. 21) as the best-selling album of 2022. While showing the album cover, Jimmy congratulated the “Bigger Than The Whole Sky” artist on the album’s success. He also broke down a couple of things about the album’s success.
Jimmy read some trivia from a card, “In just one day of sales, it became the top-selling album of the year already.” Midnights broke Spotify’s record for most streams in a day. Today the top 10 songs on Apple Music and Spotify are on Midnights.”
Jimmy further revealed that ‘Rolling Stones’ called this album an instant classic in their five-star review, and now this album is on track to sell over one million copies in its first week. After speaking about the album’s success, Jimmy asked Taylor, “How are you feeling?”
Taylor Swift responded, “I am beside myself really. It’s actually a concept record, but it’s the first autobiographical album in a while, because the last album that I put out was a rerecord of my album “Red”, so that has some space. “I wrote that stuff a decade ago, “Folklore” and “Evermore”, it was like story time, like a mythology, like I’m creating a character,” she added.
Taylor confessed that she is overwhelmed by the fans’ love for the record, but also feeling, like very soft and fragile. The two can exist at once. “The fact that the fans have done this–like the breaking of these records and going out to the stores and getting it,” it’s like I am 32 so we’re considering geriatric pop stars,” she added. In an age when fans would try to put them away, she is just happy to be here.
13 Sleepless Nights, 13 Stories…
Jimmy Fallon reminded the audience that “Midnights” is made of 13 sleepless nights and 13 stories. “I just don’t know how you do it, do you just get up and go in the middle of your–you record something on your own, or jot something down?” he asked while trying to understand how Taylor made this album.
Taylor responded that she loves doing all of that. She loves writing songs, poems, stories and scripts. “I love writing those things because there’s a part of it that I don’t quite understand how it comes to fruition. There’s something so mysterious about writing. But I found that the more–more I write, the more I keep writing, I don’t know what’s going on,” she added.
Taylor Swift revealed that in the last, six or seven years, she’s been constantly making things, and the more she makes them, the happier she is. She’s overwhelmed that people love her latest album so much.
Coming back to the conversation, Jimmy asked, “Do you know Mastermind was going to be the 13th track?” Taylor revealed, “yea”. Jimmy said, “That’s meta right there.” Taylor said that over the years, she has kind of a funny-sort of relationship with her fans. “Like they tease me a lot, and I enjoy it,” she added. One of the things her fans like to make fun of it is “the kind of cryptic needing to plan things out.” Well that’s very true.
For instance, her tenth album “Midnights” has created a buzz among fans since its release on Oct. 21. The album’s track, “Bigger Than The Whole Sky” has prompted fans to believe that the 11-times Grammys awardee referenced a “secret miscarriage” in her song.
One fan, who underwent a miscarriage wrote, “Heads up to my fellow miscarriage mamas: Bigger Than The Whole Sky off Taylor Swift’s new album (one of the bonus tracks) is rough, and I’d suggest listening with some tissues when you’re not already feeling raw.” However, one of the Swifties warned those who have suffered a pregnancy loss to make sure they’re in a good headspace before listening to the “rough” tune.
Is Taylor Coming Up With A Tour?
Jimmy asked the golden question regarding the latest album, “You’ve done the albums, you’ve done the recordings, and also you haven’t toured in like four years, so is it happening? Taylor quickly responded, “I know, I know. I think I should do it.” Jimmy asked, “are we talking sooner than later?” Taylor again said, “I know, I think I should just do it. When it’s time, we’ll do it.”
She revealed, “You know when you write songs, and you’re proud of your songs and you have the fans reacting, the most potent way you can see them react is when you’re looking at their faces. I miss that a lot. I miss that connection.” So yea seems like the wait is over, and we can see her soon performing live.
Jimmy also revealed that Taylor just receievd her doctorate from New York University, and delivered a great speech. Well, now it’s Dr Taylor Swift. Jimmy revealed that during her speech, Taylor made a funny joke: “I am a doctor, but I am not the doctor you need in an emergency. Do not call me. But, you can call me if you need to name breeds of cats.”
Well, Taylor could actually name like, 50 breeds of cats. Taylor responded, “That was me, committing to an act of extreme hyperbole with the 50–I think I can name 50 cats in 5 seconds. I was trying to make a joke. I don’t think I can actually do that.” Well, Taylor does what she knows best, and her music lives on. What do you think about “Midnights”?
