Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn Split After Six Years of Dating

In a shocking turn of events, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have split after six years of dating. Sources close to the couple have confirmed that they broke up a few weeks ago. The news comes amid Alwyn’s absence from Swift’s sold-out Eras tour.

The pop star began dating the actor in 2016. Ever since the two have mostly kept their relationship private and chose not to talk about each other in their interviews frequently. In October last year, a source had revealed that the couple was going ‘super strong.’

The news was first reported by Entertainment Tonight, which revealed that the split was amicable. “It was not dramatic. The relationship had just run its course. It’s why [Alwyn] hasn’t been spotted at any shows,” revealed an insider. Meanwhile, the couple’s fans are heartbroken by the development.

Swift and Alwyn had been going strong for six years. Rumors of their engagement surfaced multiple times in the recent past; however, the duo refuted the reports. “If I had a pound for every time I think I’ve been told I’ve been engaged, then I’d have a lot of pound coins,” Alwyn, 32, said in an interview last year.

“I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say,” the English actor-songwriter added. Earlier in 2020, a source close to Swift had revealed that the Grammy-winning singer was very happy in her relationship. “He is her rock. Their relationship is mature and wonderful,” he said at the time.

Swift and Alwyn Also Collaborated on Music Together

The duo’s relationship soon turned professional as well. Swift and Alwyn first collaborated during the pandemic in 2020 and worked on the albums Folklore and Evermore. The actor wrote a number of songs for the albums under the pseudonym William Bowery. Folklore eventually won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2021.

“Joe is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine,” Swift said in her acceptance speech. She also opened up about how the couple decided to collaborate.

“I was like, Hey, this could be really weird and we could hate this [but] because we’re in quarantine and there’s nothing else going on, could we just try to write this song together?” the Blank Space singer said.

Lavender Haze is Inspired by Swift’s Relationship with Alwyn

The 33-year-old singer previously confirmed that the opening track of her latest album Midnights, Lavender Haze, was inspired by her relationship with Alwyn. “I happened on the phrase ‘lavender haze’ when I was watching Mad Men, and I looked it up because I thought it sounded cool,” Swift said.

“It’s a common phrase used in the ’50s where they would just describe being in love. If you were in the lavender haze that meant you were in that all-encompassing love glow. Like my relationship for six years, we’ve had to dodge weird rumors, tabloid stuff, and we just ignore it. This song is sort of about the act of ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff,” she added.
