“If you want to dance the mask, you must service the composer,” says the new trailer of Tár, an upcoming psychological drama film that revolves around a renowned classical musician who begins to crumble under the burden of high expectations.

Lydia Tár is Struggling to Focus on her Music in Tár Trailer 

The trailer introduces Blanchett as Lydia Tár, the first ever woman to be the chief conductor of a major German orchestra, having experience in conducting some of the biggest orchestras in the world. Apart from being the conductor, Tár is also tasked with composing new musical pieces, which adds to her burden.

Tár is then shown failing to focus on her work as she gets distracted by the most minor noises in her surroundings. Her sensitivity toward noises keeps getting worse, and the musician seems to be getting mad by everything going on around her. At one point, her assistant tells her, “I received another weird email,” hinting at more to come.

Tár will be releasing in selected theatres on October 7 before a nationwide release on October 28. Watch the thrilling new trailer below.

Tár Marks Todd Field’s Comeback After 16 Years

With Tár, Academy nominated filmmaker Todd Field is returning to direct a film, after his last release, Little Children, in 2006. The film was screened at 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 1, 2022, and received highly positive reviews from the critics and the audience.

The official synopsis of the film reads, “TÁR examines the changing nature of power, its impact and durability in our modern world. Renowned musician Lydia Tár is days away from recording the symphony that will elevate her career. When all elements seem to conspire against her, Lydia’s adopted daughter Petra becomes an integral emotional support for her struggling mother.”

Cate Blanchett won the Best Actress Award at Venice International Film Festival

Cate’s portrayal of Linda is being touted as her finest performance to date. She even won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice International Film Festival. The people who have already seen the film are in awe of the actress, with one fan writing, “Having seen the film I can assure, you are in a treat for master class acting from Cate Blanchett.”

“She completely operates on different level any actors would dare dream of. This is a nuanced character study that will nothing but astound you. Cate Blanchett is sure shot lock for win Best actress next year. Have not seen any performance that has surpassed her this year, male or female,” wrote the fan.

Apart from Blanchett, the film will star Noémie Merlant as Francesca Lentini, Nina Hoss as Sharon Goodnow, Sophie Kauer as Olga Metkina, Julian Glover as Andris Davis, Allan Corduner as Sebastian Goodnow and Mark Strong as Elliot Kaplan. Tár is being distributed by Focus Features.
