The iconic actress was a Bollywood trendsetter of sorts when it came to roamncing in the snowy mountains of Switzerland. The 1989 blockbuster “Chandni,” starring Sridevi, was shot extensively in Switzerland and attracted Indian tourists to the nation.
Though this wasn’t the first time a Hindi film was shot in Switzerland, according to Swiss officials, “Chandni” was the first film to incite such intrigue in Indians to visit the beautiful country.
The latest buzz is that Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor and one of their closest family friends, fashion designer Manish Malhotra, just arrived in the country. It hasn’t been publicly stated that they’re there for the statue inauguration. The two are also working on a photo shoot for Brides Today India magazine.
Sridevi will be the second star from the Indian film fraternity to be honored by the nation for her work in promoting Swiss tourism. In 2016, the Swiss installed a statue of famed filmmaker Yash Chopra. He was also named honorary Ambassador of the town of Interlaken and had a train named after him. Chopra’s many hit films, ranging from “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” to his last, “Jab Tak Hain Jaan,” featured the picturesque locations of Switerzland.
It’s wonderful to see Sridevi’s legacy reach beyond her home country in a meaningful way.
