Kris Wu Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison on Rape Charges
On Friday, the Chaoyang district court in Beijing passed a sentence, ordering that Wu would have to serve 11 years and six months in prison for raping three women at his home in 2020, adding that ‘they were drunk and did not know or not able to resist.’ The court gave him another year and 10 months in prison for ‘gathering people to commit adultery.’
Wu was accused of rape in July last year. He denied the allegations at the time, and even the police seemed to side with him. However, his arrest was approved two weeks later, in August 2021, by the Chaoyang District People’s Procurator in Beijing, citing an ‘investigation in accordance with the law.’
The 32 year old singer underwent trial in June this year, where the media was strictly prohibited, in order to protect the identity of the victim. At the time, reports suggested that he could face three to ten years in jail.
The Singer was Accused of Harassment by 25 Women
Du Meizhu, a student and beauty influencer, was the first one to accuse Wu of rape. She claimed that the singer raped her after a date two years earlier when she was only 17 and was under the influence of alcohol.Â
She called out the singer on social media and revealed that she was invited to a party at his home, and was forced to drink alcohol. The next day, she found herself in Wu’s bed. After Meizhu, 24 more women came out and accused the singer of sexual harassment. Some of them accused him of inviting them to alcohol-loaded karaoke parties.
