Shakira is starting a new chapter in her life and she is letting everyone know. The Columbian singer took to Instagram on Monday (April 10), after making headlines about her split from footballer Gerard Pique and her family’s move away from Barcelona, Spain. She specifically requested that her kids be protected from all the fuss.
Shakira Requests To Give Children Privacy
From dropping an explosive singer about her ex Gerard Pique to moving on gracefully whilst taking care of two children, Shakira has portrayed that she can surpass any storm. As paparazzi continue to haunt her and her children, Shakira took to Instagram and issued a petition, providing strict guidelines for media.
The “Queen of Latin Music” started the post by writing, “Respected friends, journalists, and media outlets…In this period of change in my life as a public figure, it’s understandable that there is a permanent curiosity on behalf of the press around me and my family.”
Shakira urged the media to spare her children amid this difficult time. She continued, “However, my children, Milan and Sasha, have endured a very difficult year, suffering incessant harassment and persecution without relief by the paparazzi and several media outlets in Barcelona.”
She insisted that as her children begin a new phase in their lives, the media must respect their right to privacy. She requested the media to stop following her children “to exit or entrance of the school, wait for them at the door of our house, or chase them to their extracurricular activities, and games as it has happened every day in Barcelona in order to obtain photographs or better ratings.”
Reminds Journalists Of Humanity!
The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer reminded journalists and photographers of their ethics and asked them to be sensitive to the situation faced by her children, Milan and Sasha and urged them to “behave in the most humane way possible,” given that this is the health and integrity of two under 8 and 10 years.
She stated that her children deserve to have a life like other normal kids and should feel free when they move out on the street, and attend school “feeling safe and having the peace of mind not being chased or subjected to constant surveillance of camera.”
She concluded in her note, “I extend this petition no longer as an artist, but as a mother who wants to protect and care for the psychological and emotional well-being of her children so that they can live a healthy and happy life, as every child deserves. Thank you for your understanding and support, Shakira.”
Fans Come Forward To Shakira’s Support
As Shakira posted this note, a plethora of fans and celebrities came forward to support the singer. “Wtf people blaming Shakira and justifying bullying her kids. Open up. Respect,” Nicole Jaddad wrote. Model and social media personality, Mar Lucas Vilar wrote, “children don’t deserve this.”
One wrote, “Privacy and respect go hand in hand everything goes well. The media must measure when something crosses the line, and respect the space and integrity of others. With God first, it will get better! 👏🙌”
Shakira previously took to social media and confirmed her move from Barcelona following her split from Pique. “I settled in Barcelona to give my children stability, the same we are now looking for in another corner of the world next to family, friends and the sea,” Shakira captioned a picture of the famous city in Spanish on Sunday (April 2).
“Today we start a new chapter in the pursuit of their happiness. Thank you to everyone who surfed alongside my many waves there in Barcelona, the city where I learned that friendship is certainly longer than love,” she continued in that post.
She expressed her emotions by writing, “Thank you to everyone who has been there to cheer me up, dried my tears, inspired me and made me grow. Thank you to my Spanish audience who have always wrapped me in their love and loyalty. Para ustedes solo un hasta luego y como decía tantas veces mi padre, nos vemos en las curvas!”
You may be aware that Shakira allegedly caught Pique having an affair. In June 2022, the two released a joint statement, confirming their split. “We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the Grammy winner and the FC Andorra owner said in a joint statement. “For the wellbeing of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect their privacy.”
Since her split from the ex-Barcelona footballer, Gerard Pique, Shakira decided to move on “in search of her children’s happiness”. Per reports, she will be living on North Bay Road Drive in a $10 million mansion.
In accordance with their agreement, the player will be allowed to see his children anytime he wants, while all the expenses of the trips will be shared between him and Shakira. Well, Shakira’s heart may be broken but nothing can pull down her dignity. Don’t you love this woman?
