Social media might have given an opportunity to celebrities to connect better with their fans, but it can also prove to be extremely judgmental sometimes. Selena Gomez had to face a similar situation recently when people noticed her hands shaking in a recent TikTok video.
While some fans were concerned for the singer-actor’s health, others started trolling and commenting on her physicality. Gomez has now broken her silence on the incident and revealed the reason behind her condition, shutting the trolls down.
Selena Gomez Reveals Why Her Hands were Shaky in Recent TikTok Video
The 30 year old singer had posted a video recently which showed her going through her skincare and makeup routine. At one point in the clip, she was seen gently washing her face with a towel and applying micellar water to a sponge. However, people noticed she had a slight tremor in her hand while doing so.
A number of fans then commented on the video. Some expressed their concern and wondered what caused the condition. While others simply started mocking the singer for not being able to keep her hands still. Gomez then finally opened up and reminded fans that she was diagnosed with lupus a few years ago and is still under medication.
The shakiness of her hands is a side-effect of the medication. “Lol I shake because of my medication for lupus,” she wrote in the comments of another TikTok which mentioned the incident. “Also read my disclaimer. I ain’t no pro [laughing face emoji],” she added.
The Pop Star was Diagnosed with Lupus in 2014
Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus in 2014. The condition is defined as ‘a disease that occurs when your body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs’. In 2017, she had to go through a kidney transplant because of the illness. At the time, her friend Francia Raisa acted as her donor.
“I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” the Only Murders in the Building star had announced on Instagram.
“She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made,” she had added.
Gomez has been Vocal about her Struggle with the Disease
Selena has never shied away from talking about her illness and raising more awareness about it. In her recent documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, she revealed that she was again diagnosed with Lupus in 2020. “I haven’t felt it since I was younger. In the morning, when I wake up, I immediately start crying because it just hurts, like, everything,” she said.
The Calm Down singer also spoke about her bipolar disorder diagnosis and said, “I found having a relationship with bipolar and myself, it’s going to be there. I’m just making it my friend now. I’m at peace. I’m angry. I’m sad. I’m competent. I’m full of doubt. I’m a work in progress. I am enough. I am Selena,” she explained.
