Schmigadoon!, the Apple TV+ series’ hilarious take on musicals has left fans impressed. The show first premiered in 2021 and paid a satirical homage to the musicals of the Golden Age of the 1940s and 1950s.
The parody nature of the show tickles the funny bone of the audiences, who are always excited to watch its new episodes. Schmigadoon! returned with its six-episode-long second season recently, however, fans have started demanding another season already. But is the show renewed for season 3? Read on to find out.
Schmigadoon! Season 3 Renewal Status and Potential Release Date
Apple TV+ has not renewed Schmigadoon! for the third season as of now. However, fans need not worry as the second season is still being aired, and the streaming platform might decide on the future of the show once the current installment concludes.
The season finale is set to air on May 3, after which Apple TV+ will take a few weeks or months to finalize if they want to go ahead with another season, considering the viewership and buzz around the series. The streaming platform took 10 months to announce the renewal for the previous season.
The first season finished airing in August 2021, and the renewal for season 2 was announced almost a year later in June 2022. So fans might need to go through another long wait before Apple TV+ confirms season 3. If the same trend is followed, the third season would not be released until the beginning of 2025.
Schmigadoon! Season 3 Storyline
Since the show has not been renewed officially yet, it is tough to speculate about the storyline for the potential third season. However, it is certain that the show will be parodying another musical if the third installment goes into production.
The first season was a satirical take on the 1947 musical Brigadoon and saw New York doctors Melissa and Josh discovering a magical town named ‘Schmigadoon.’ In the second season, the couple arrived in the world of ‘Schmicago’ and paid tribute to the 1975 musical Chicago.
After covering the acts of the 1940s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s, the third season will probably focus on a musical from the 1980s and 1990s. Let’s see which musical the makers pick and choose to parody this time.
Schmigadoon! Season 3 Cast
If the third season gets made, it will see Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong reprising their roles as Josh Skinner and Melissa Gimble. Other cast members who have been series regulars, but appeared in different roles in seasons 1 and 2 include Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ariana DeBose, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski and Aaron Tveit.
These actors are now expected to appear in the third season as new characters. The show might also see the addition of new cast members based on the storyline. Schmigadoon! has been created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, with the former also writing all the songs for the musical. The show won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics last year.
