Rihanna and her lover, A$AP Rocky have finally revealed their son’s name, a year after the Fenty Beauty founder gave birth to her son. Born on 13 May 2022, Rihanna’s son is named after the Wu-Tang Clan’s leader, RZA. His birth certificate reads his name as, RZA Athelston Mayers.
For a year, Rihanna has been trying to keep her child away from the spotlight. In a cover story for British Vogue’s March 2023 issue, the singer detailed how she’s “fiercely protected her baby boy from the spotlight.”
She said, “I just went straight into protective mode. Like there wasn’t even time for rage. As parents, it just feels so icky, like a violation.” On handling photos of their son potentially being leaked to the press, the singer recalled, “As we were speaking, we knew they were making calls and deals.” Their son turns one in just two days.
A Baby-Bump Super Bowl Performance
Rihanna is pregnant with her second child. In February 2023, the “Umbrella” singer revealed the news during her Super Bowl Halftime performance as she flaunted her baby bump in a red jumpsuit. That same month, Rihanna’s dad, whose real name is Ronald Fenty, stated in an interview that he had gone through a “few names” for the first child.
Their firstborn is named after RZA, whose real name is Robert Fitzgerald Diggs. The famous American rapper and filmmaker is a de facto leader of the renowned hip-hop group, Wu-Tang Clan, whose members have continued to popularize and develop East Coast hip-hop and hardcore hip-hop styles.
RZA is the man behind legendary scores like Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003) and Kill Bill: Volume 2 (2004). He made his directorial debut, The Man with the Iron Fists, in 2012.
