Rapper Fetty Wap Sentenced To Six Years In Prison For Large-Scale Drug Trafficking Scheme

Fetty Wap expressed his guilt for hurting his community after the “Trap Queen” rapper was sentenced to six years in prison for a large-scale drug trafficking scheme. It was found out that narcotics were shipped from the West Coast and sold in New Jersey and Long Island.

Fetty Wap Sentenced For Conspiracy To Distribute Cocaine

Rapper Fetty Wap was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday (May 24) in federal court in Central Islip, New York. The rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was initially arrested in October 2021 on charges that he participated in a drug smuggling conspiracy, involving heroin, fentanyl, and other drugs.

Wap pleaded guilty in August to conspiracy to “distribute and possess controlled substances about cocaine.” This charge carried a minimum sentence of five years in prison. He is one of the six co-defendants who pleaded guilty to the charges. Fetty Wap’s role was a “kilogram-level redistributor”. The prosecutors recommended a seven to nine-year sentence.

Fetty Wap Seeks Apology From His Community

After the verdict, Fetty Wap, known for his hit “Trap Queen” apologized in the courtroom. He said, “I hurt my community, people who look up to me, my family, and myself. I am truly sorry for any pain I caused.”

During the verdict, Judge Joanna Seybert told Maxwell while announcing his sentence, “Despite your background and all you overcame, you threw it all away.” Court filing reveals that this group used the US. Postal Service and vehicles with hidden compartments to transport narcotics from West Coast to Suffolk County, N.Y.

There, the group stored these drugs until they were sent out to dealers. The defendants allegedly distributed more than 100 kilograms of drugs like cocaine, fentanyl, and crack cocaine on Long Island and in New Jersey since 2019.

Maxwell was previously out on bail before pleading guilty. However, his bail was revoked and the rapper was arrested again in August. It came out that Wap threatened to kill someone over FaceTime while brandishing a firearm. As for this case, Wap pleaded guilty to conspiracy to “distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine”, which carried a “minimum sentence of five years in federal prison.”

Fetty Wap rose to stardom with his single “Trap Queen”, which reached number two on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 2015. Wap then secured a record deal with 300 Entertainment and came up with two top 10 hits in the U.S., namely “679” (featuring Remy Boyz) and “My Way” (remixed featuring Drake).

During his career, Fetty Wap has generated a net worth of $10 million. Apart from being a rapper, he is also famous for being a producer. Previously, Fetty Wap ignited controversy after his sex tape with another model. But again, the rapper couldn’t hold to his achievements as he deviated from his path and found himself entangled in an excusable crime.
