We knew that the Bridgerton world was expanding! Now, its prequel is finally set to hit Netflix as the streaming service dropped a teaser trailer for the much-awaited “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story”. The prequel series, which depicts the life of Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), one of the most quirky characters of the famous Netflix show, premieres in May 2023. Here’s everything you need to learn about the show.

Queen Charlotte: Teaser & Premiere Date

Bridgerton’s Queen Charlotte loves attention and the upcoming prequel “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” is all about the quirky character. The prequel series, which depicts the emergence of young Charlotte to prominence and power, premieres on May 4, 2023. The series is created by drama master, Shonda Rhimes (executive producer of ‘Bridgerton’). All six episodes are set to premiere on the said date.

Netflix recently released the trailer of the upcoming prequel wherein a young Queen Charlotte can be heard saying: “This [palace] is my home. I am the queen.” After ascending the throne, the young monarch then sets on an adventurous voyage and a romance, that will forever change the Bridgerton world.

All About The Cast And Plot

Queen Charlotte’s role will be reprised by none other than Golda Rosheuvel while India Amarteifio would be playing the young queen. Apart from this, there will be some faces from the original series including, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Ruth Gemmell as Lady Violet Bridgerton and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley.

Interestingly, Arsema Thomas will be making her debut as young Danbury, who remains a dear friend and confidante of the queen. The role of young King George is played by Corey Mylchreest, whose mysterious past keeps him away from giving fully to love. Other casting includes Sam Clemmett as young Brimsley, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury and  Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor.

As for the plot, the series actually recounts the story of how the youthful Queen’s wedding to King George prompted both a great romance and a societal switch, resulting in the Ton world that the characters in Bridgerton inherit.

The official synopsis reads, “Betrothed to the mysterious King of England against her will, Charlotte arrives in London only to realize she was not exactly what the royals were expecting. As she learns to navigate the palace, the ‘ton, and her unpredictable husband, she grows into one of Europe’s most unforgettable monarchs.”

FYI, Rosheuvel recently announced that “The Queens Ball: A Bridgerton Experience” will take place in New York City this spring in partnership with Netflix, Shondaland and Fever. As for the original series, “Bridgerton”, Netflix has already renewed the series through Season 4 and is yet to announce the premiere date for Season 3.
