From almost the moment Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement, rumors began to swirl about who the Suits star and humanitarian would select for her bridal party. One of the most recognizable names mentioned was Priyanka Chopra’s, with tabloids all over the world hailing the close friendship between the two stars.
Alas, those of us who were hoping to get a glimpse of Chopra in a fancy gown standing by her close friend will be disappointed. The Quantico star confirmed this week that she will not be one of Markle’s bridesmaids after all.
“No, I’m not a bridesmaid,” Chopra told People.com in a new video on their site. She went on to once again send her best wishes to the couple. “It’s not just going to be life-changing for both of them, it’s life-changing for the world that needs to see strong women as icons, and I think Meghan has the potential to be that.”
Like almost all of Markle’s celebrity friends, Chopra also skirted around the question of whether or not she was actually invited to the ceremony on May 19. The guest list has been carefully guarded since invitations went out late last month.
Traditionally, royal weddings feature younger relatives as bridesmaids and page boys during the nuptials — which means that we are likely to see little Prince George and Princess Charlotte decked out in adorable finery soon.
