Workaholic international superstar Priyanka Chopra has managed to build a successful career in two parts of the world. The actress hasn’t even wrapped shooting for the next season of her hit ABC show “Quantico” in Ireland and we’ve already got news of her next project. Director Ali Abbas Zafar has confirmed that Chopra will star in his next film.

Chopra has been cast as the female lead opposite Salman Khan in the film, “Bharat.” Rumor has it that Katrina Kaif was also considered for the role but after much speculation, Chopra has been finalized for the role. Zafar has previously worked with Chopra in the film “Gunday,” and he is excited to have her be a part of the film.

Priyanka is the biggest Indian artist globally today and a perfect fit for the film as she brings to the table her incredible talent and international appeal,” Zafar said in a statement released to the press. ”’Bharat’ is a mature, subtle love story and her character is the soul of the film. She stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Salman in his journey and is the catalyst who triggers what will be a turning point in the plot.”

“Bharat” marks the third collaboration between Khan and Zafar, they have previously given us the mega-hits “Sultan” and “Tiger Zinda Hai.” The upcoming film is a remake of the 2014 South Korean film, “Ode to my Father.” The South Korean film follows the life of a man who is separated from his family during the Korean war and is reunited again. The Indian adaptation will follow a similar path but incorporate significant pieces of Indian history into its storyline.

Zafar’s adaptation will follow a man over a span of 60 years, beginning in his early 20s. The film will be broken into different chapters of his life and will see the separation of his family during the India-Pakistan partition. Khan will reportedly have 4-5 looks throughout the film to match each age. Khan has even agreed to use prosthetics, which he is not a fan of, for this film. Khan also has plans to become leaner for the portions of the film where he is younger.

The partition sequences will be shot in Punjab and a lot of care has gone into the details of the shoot. The filmmakers are even using original steam engines, art, costumes and more to portray the era accurately. Shooting for the film will begin after Khan’s “Da-bangg” ends this summer, but Zafar has already posted a snap on Twitter of Khan’s look test.

Due to Khan’s court case regarding a 20-year-old poaching incident, overseas shooting plans have been altered and there are reports that most of the film will be shot in India. Chopra will join Khan sometime in July to begin shooting for the film. This film marks the reunion of Khan and Chopra after 10 years! The duo made an adorable pair in the romantic comedies “Mujhse Shaadi Karogi,” “Salaam-E-Ishq” and “God Tussi Great Ho.” We hear that Chopra was actually the first choice for Khan’s “London Dreams” and “Main Aur Mrs. Khanna” also, but unfortunately those projects never worked out and went to Asim and Kareena Kapoor Khan respectively.

“I’m looking forward to begin shooting this film and working with Salman and Ali again after a considerable time. I’ve learnt a lot from them in our previous collaborations and am excited to see what this one has to offer,” Chopra said in a statement reported by PTI. “I’m also looking forward to working with Alvira and Atul and the entire team of Bharat. To all my well-wishers who’ve been so patient and supportive, thank you for your constant support.”

Chopra is currently shooting for the third season of “Quantico” which will premiere April 26. She also has a supporting role in the film “A Kid Like Jake” which is making rounds at film festivals and her film “Isn’t it Romantic?” will premiere early 2019.

“Bharat” will be the return of the queen to Bollywood after 2 years. She was last seen in crime drama “Jai Gangaajal” with Prakash Jha. Bollywood lovers have been patiently waiting for Chopra’s return to the big screen and let’s hope “Bharat” is worth the wait.

Khan is also wrapping up his latest projects including shooting Remo D’souza’s “Race 3” which co-stars Jacqueline Fernandez, Anil Kapoor, Daisy Shah, Bobby Deol and Saqib Salem. Produced by Khan’s brother-in-law, Atul Agnihotri, “Bharat” is slated to release on Eid in 2019.
