‘Outlander’ Eighth And Final Season Renewed, Starz Greenlights Prequel Series

‘Outlander’ fans raise their hands because Starz has renewed the series for its eighth and last season. However, Jamie Fraser’s story will continue in a prequel series, “Outlander: Blood of My Blood”, that has received a green light from the network. Read on to learn more about these recent developments.

Outlander Renewed For Eight & Final Season…

‘Outlander’, which is based on the Outlander novel series by Diana Gabaldon, has been renewed for its eighth and final season. Starz has confirmed that the last season will consist of ten episodes, following an extended 16-episode Season 7, which is currently in production.

The network has given a greenlight for “Outlander: Blood of My Blood,” a prequel series to the historical drama series that has been airing since 2014. Apart from this, the seventh season will consist of 16 episodes, roughly based on the novel An Echo in the Bone. Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz released a statement:

“For nearly a decade ‘Outlander’ has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring Claire and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion. But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell throughout 26 new episodes and even more to explore this dynamic world and its origin story. We’re thrilled to continue to partner with Matthew, Maril and Ronald and can’t wait to see where their alluring storytelling takes us next.”

More About Outlander: Blood of My Blood

The production of the prequel series ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’, began in 2022. It is reported that the prequel will narrate the story of Jamie Fraser’s parents. “Outlander: Blood of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story,” said Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producer.

He further revealed that the prequel will explore what “lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political and financial gains”. If you aren’t aware, the title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire and fans can expect several known faces from the original series. The prequel will dive into the love story of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.

“Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with season eight, but Diana is continuing with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on book ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the Outlander universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans,” concluded Matthew.

‘Outlander’ has an overall rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes. The site describes the series as ” a unique, satisfying adaptation of its source material, brought to life by lush scenery and potent chemistry between its leads”. The series stars Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, David Berry, Caitlin O’Ryan, Paul Gorman, Charles Vandervaart, Izzy Meikle-Small, and Joey Phillips.

The series has won numerous accolades such as the BAFTA Award for Best Actress (Balfe), three People’s Choice Awards for Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy TV Show, two Critics Choice Awards for Most Bingeworthy Show, and two Gold Derby Awards for Best Drama Actor (Heughan).
