Nipsey Hussle Honored with a Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Nipsey Hussle was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on what could have been his 37th birthday, August 15. The rapper was murdered three years ago. The star is the 2,729th star since the completion of the Walk of Fame in 1961.

The event was attended by Nipsey’s family, including his sister, father, grandmother and fiancé, actress Lauren London, who also gave touching speeches remembering their beloved.

Hussle Honored with a star at Hollywood Boulevard

The star is located on 6212 Hollywood Boulevard, in front of Amoeba Music. Nipsey was remembered for a legacy of community building in Los Angeles that continues to this day in his name, apart from being honored for his musical accomplishments.

The rapper’s fiancé, London, said in her speech that she hopes the star serves as a sign of hope to everyone. She said, “I think I speak for the entire city of L.A. when I say that we’ve always known that Hussle was destined for greatness. Nip would’ve been honored by this moment.”

“So whenever you’re in the city of angels, and you see this star, I hope that it encourages you to break away from whatever might be holding you back, and for you to run your marathon until God says that it’s finished,” she added.

LaTanya Ward, a community activist and a friend of Nipsey, also gave a speech and said, “This is a really good birthday gift. I wish he were actually here to receive it. He got people to understand that people who come from where we come from can accomplish great feats.”

The event was also attended by rappers YG, Roddy Ricch and NBA stars Russell Westbrook and Isiah Thomas.

August 15 will be Celebrated as Nipsey Hussle Day in Los Angeles

City councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson has officially announced that August 15 will be celebrated as Nipsey Hussle Day in the city of Los Angeles. There will be Marathon events every year on the day, much like the one planned at the upcoming opening of his flagship Marathon store.

Hussle worked with the L.A. City Council on projects like Destination Crenshaw – a public works effort dedicated to art and the local businesses now well under construction. Last week, L.A. officials dedicated a new Metro station in Hyde Park in his name.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said in a statement, “Nipsy Hussle was more than just a creative genius, he was committed to helping his community through savvy business moves and charitable contributions.”

Hussle was Murdered in front of his Marathon store in 2019

The multiple Grammy awards winner was shot at least 10 times in the parking lot of his store, Marathon Clothing, in South Los Angeles on March 31, 2019. He was rushed to a hospital but was pronounced dead. Hussle was only 33 at the time of his death.

A man named Eric Ronald Holder has been found guilty of his murder and is awaiting sentencing. After Hussle’s death, thousands of people gathered to pay tribute to him in a memorial service held in April 2019.
