Netflix Anime “Drifting Home” Release Date and Everything You Need to Know

The popularity of anime has grown tremendously in the last decade. Even though it is still a niche genre in the U.S., it has become more mainstream thanks to the growing number of people who are watching these shows on TV, Netflix and other online platforms.

Flagging the biggest slate of anime this year, Netflix is bringing some of the most awaited anime productions in collaboration with Japanese anime producers Studio Colorado.

The streaming platform has tied a deal with Studio Colorado with a three film deal kicking off with the first “Drifting Home” ready to premiere on the platform this month. Check out this article to know everything.

Netflix Brining Adventure Anime This September “Drifting Home”

Netflix has partnered with Studio Colorado, the Tokyo-based anime studio that produced Mr Iglesias, to create three original movies based on children’s books by Japanese author Hiroyasu Ishida.

Although Netflix has lost subscribers in the first quarter of 2022, it continues to be a leader in original content. One type of programming that is particularly successful for the company is animation—which has become one of its most celebrated forms of content.

Studio Colorido, the studio behind A Whisker Away is producing another exciting new anime movie for Netflix. Drifting Home will be released on September 16th

Trailer Featuring Nautical Anime Adventure

The new trailer shows more of what viewers can expect from the film when compared to the first trailer that was revealed back in September 2021.

It still keeps some of its mysteries but reveals enough so fans have a better idea of what’s coming their way once they finally get around to watching it on Netflix later this month.

The trailer for the new series again introduces Kosuke, who along with two classmates is breaking into an abandoned apartment complex scheduled for demolition and rumoured to be haunted.

But what they found there is not supernatural at all.  When the group sleeps in the condemned apartment, they wake to find that their lodging has been transported to an unknown location—it appears to be floating on a vast ocean.

The rest of the trailer is upbeat, including scenes of children swimming and fishing; however, there are hints that something ominous lurks just beyond their vision.

Natsume introduces a man named Noppo to the group—who seems to know more about what’s going on than anyone else.

The trailer shows the group encountering another complex that is sinking into the water; they attempt to rescue those trapped inside.

Cast

One of the exciting reasons to give this adventure anime a solid try is the cast that has been voiced by some of the popular artists from the Anime industry. Asami Seto who is popularly known as Mai Sakurajima is voicing Natume Tonai.

Mutsumi Tamura as Kōsuke Kumagaya, Ayumu Murase as Noppo, Bin Shimada as Yasuji Kumagaya and Daiki Yamashita as Yuzuru.

With such an exciting trailer, the film has done an outstanding job of giving us a peak into the movie without exploiting the plot too much and maintaining the excitement for the big premiere on the 16th of September.
