Netflix has dropped the first official trailer for Murder Mystery 2, the sequel to the 2019 mystery comedy starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. The film features Nick and Audrey Spitz on a new adventure as they attend the lavish wedding of their close friend Maharajah; however, things soon take a different turn.
Murder Mystery 2 was announced shortly after the success of its predecessor, and Aniston and Sandler were confirmed to be reprising their roles during the September 2021 Tudum Global Fan Event. Continue reading to watch the trailer and know the release date of the film.
Murder Mystery 2 Trailer Features a Wedding Extravaganza Gone Wrong
The trailer begins with the Spitz couple getting an invitation to Maharajah’s wedding on a private island. The two are hesitant at first, considering how things turned out for them when they went on a trip last time, but they decide to attend their friend’s big day. However, Maharajah is kidnapped just before his wedding, leaving all the guests as suspects.
Nick and Audrey now have a race against time to chase down the kidnappers with the help of professional detectives. The two will have to go to Paris for their mission, in a way fulfilling Audrey’s wish of visiting France. The film is all set to arrive on Netflix on March 31, 2023. Watch the fun trailer below.
Nick and Audrey Now Work as Full-Time Detectives
The film takes place four years after its predecessor and shows the Spitzes working as full-time detectives and having their own agency. While the first film was loosely inspired by Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile, the sequel will be an adaptation of her other famous work, Murder on the Orient Express.
The official synopsis of the film reads, “Four years after solving their first murder mystery, Nick and Audrey Spitz are now full-time detectives struggling to get their private eye agency off the ground when they’re invited to celebrate the wedding of their friend the Maharaja (Adeel Akhtar) on his private island.”
“But trouble follows the Spitzes again when the groom is kidnapped for ransom soon after the festivities begin — making each glamorous guest, family member, and the bride herself a suspect.”
“Murder Mystery 2 sends Nick and Audrey Spitz on a high-stakes case that finally gives them everything they’ve ever dreamed of: a shot at their detective agency finally becoming successful…and their long-awaited trip to Paris,” it reads further.
Several New Actors Have Joined the Cast in the Sequel
Apart from Aniston and Sandler, Adeel Akhtar will be repairing his role as Maharajah in Murder Mystery 2. The film will also feature some new cast members, including John Kani, Jodie Turner-Smith, Mark Strong, Enrique Arce, Mélanie Laurent, Annie Mumolo, Tony Goldwyn (Scandal), Kuhoo Verma, and Zurin Villanueva.
The film is written by James Vanderbilt, who also serves as a producer along with Aniston and Sandler. Joseph Vecsey, Judit Maull, and Jonathan Loughran serve as co-producers, and Charlize Theron, Tim Herlihy, Barry Bernardi, Julie Goldstein, Lucas Smith, Kevin Grady, and Beth Kono act as executive producers.
