Colin Stough is a country singer who stunned the judges with his energetic performance of Real Gone from Cars. He auditioned for the singing show American Idol when he was only 18 years old.
Stough is originally from a small town called Gattman, Mississippi. At the moment, he works as an HVAC technician. In his audition, he disclosed that it was his mom who signed him up for American Idol.
On the day of his audition, Colin received three yeses from the side of the judges. At the time of writing, his audition video has more than 2 million views on YouTube. He is referred to as a country singer, however, he has covered a wide variety of songs from different artists like Alanis Morissette and Chris Stapleton.
What did judges have to say about Colin Stough?
All the judges loved Stough’s rendition of the song Dancing On My Own. One of the standout moments throughout his journey on American Idol was when he sang a country version of Dancing On My Own in the Top 12. Colin’s version of the popular song moved the judges. His version took the song in a different direction.
Katy Perry had nothing but good things to say about Colin’s performance. She said, “What he did tonight with the Robyn song was, I think, one of the best performances of the whole night. Tonight, Colin made me a believer. He really sealed his deal.”
The Harleys in Hawaii singer further added, “It only took a different moment. I think he literally turned his life around. He’s the Brad Pitt of country music. He’s got the taste and the song choice and the vocal ability, he really showcased it tonight.”
Luke Bryan stated that he sees a bit of himself in Colin. He chimed in, “When I get a country kid like Colin, I can see myself in him. On the show last night, I really, really challenged him to be aggressive with that mentality.”
Bryan continued, “He went out there, and he did a great job, and that’s fun for me. It’s fun to see a kid get it. When the lightbulb comes on like, ‘Oh, man, I’ve got to really own this thing, I can’t aww shucks my way through this thing.’ I think he really did that.”
