Along with the incredible narrative, audiences are also incredibly curious about the series’ setting.

‘Andor’ Filming Locations Explored

After many delays and rescheduling due to the pandemic, filming started at the end of November 2020. Filming began in September 2021 at Pinewood Studios in London and continued on location throughout the United Kingdom.

The series was shot under the working title, Pilgrim. Let’s take a closer look at the filming locations.

Pinewood Studios

Pinewood Studios is a British movie and television studio situated in the village of Iver Heath, England. Over the ages, the studio has served as a base for a variety of productions ranging from large-scale movies to television shows, advertisements, and pop previews.

It is well-known for being the setting for the James Bond and Carry On movie franchises. The location served as the primary interior studio-based filming location.

Little Marlow, Buckinghamshire

Little Marlow is a village and civil parish in Buckinghamshire, England. In Little Marlow, Buckinghamshire, not far from Pinewood Studios, a large village sequence had been constructed on the premises of a former quarry. A Benedictine convent devoted solely to the Blessed Virgin Mary once stood in Little Marlow.

Coryton Refinery in Corringham, Essex

Coryton Refinery was an oil refinery in Essex, England. It was a portion of the Port of London and the final of the three main refineries on the Thames Estuary to close. The location is being developed into an industrial park known as Thames Enterprise Park.

Several days of shooting scenes took place in Cleveleys on Lancashire’s Fylde Coast in early May, with the town’s promenade and beach area attired as an alien destination.

The residents of the location also received a letter from the team. “The filming has been a great success and we have thoroughly enjoyed spending time and working in your town, and hope you had a good experience too. We and the production team want to thank you for your hospitality, patience, and understanding throughout our preparation, filming, and reinstatement.

We look forward to seeing your town immortalized on the screen next year and thank you for being part of the process.”

The shooting then later shifted to the Dorset quarry. Series filmmakers showed up at a quarry on the Jurassic Coast. Winspit was used as a stone quarry until around 1940, providing stone for London buildings. During WWII, it was used as a naval and air defense premises.

The quarry is now a little-known tourist destination. The location is now mostly used for filming.

According to the Worth Matravers parish clerk, the film crew was “very considerate of the area.” They took their time over there and some places were temporarily shut down because of filming. But in the end, it’s always a beautiful place and an amazing experience for the crew.

At the end of May, second unit and location filming started for at least a week in Black Park, a country park in Buckinghamshire near Pinewood Studios.

The majority of production on Pilgrim had relocated to Glen Tilt in Perthshire, Scotland. A staff of 500 people journeyed to Oban, Scotland, to shoot at the nearby Cruachan Dam. This began on June 18, 2021, with sets constructed around the dam and filming taking place in its tunnels.

The filming also took place at Middle Peak Quarry in Derbyshire, near Wirksworth.

The making of this series was absolutely adventurous. What are your thoughts on the filming locations? You’re welcome to drop your opinions in the comment section below.
