Laura Whitmore has revealed that she is leaving the British reality show called Love Island. The news comes after she hosted three seasons of the show over the span of two years.
Whitmore joined the show back in 2019 as a temporary replacement for Caroline Flack.
Why Did Laura Whitmore Leave Love Island?
Whitmore shared the reason behind quitting the show on her Instagram. She wrote, “There are certain elements of the show I’ve found very difficult that cannot be changed some due to the format”.
She went on to explain that the difficult elements included “flying back and forth to South Africa along with my new conflicting projects.”
Whitmore went on to add that “I wish it was still possible but know you’ll be in safe hands. I was only planning to fill in for Caroline for a series and it turned into 3 series.” She concluded with a sweet message that read “I hope I did you proud Caroline.”
Whitmore recently wrapped up the most recent season of the show. The winner of this season was Ekin-Su Culculoglu and Davide Sanclimenti.
Caroline Flack’s Death
The Irish model was roped in after Caroline Flack passed away suddenly. The former host died at the age of only 40 years. It is believed that she overdosed the night before. She was found dead in her flat in London.
The family lawyer claimed it was a suicide. Flack had been embroiled in some controversies and a domestic violence case where she was charged with assaulting her partner, tennis player Lewis Burton. Her trial was yet to start before she tragically passed away.
The family released a statement confirming Flack’s death, it also mentioned “We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time and we would ask they make no attempt to contact us and/or photograph us.”
Love Island UK is set to return for another season in 2023, it will be set in South Africa. This will be the first time that the show will return to South Africa after the initial winter season in 2020 received a mixed response.
Overall there will be two seasons of Love Island in 2023, but there is no news on who the next host of the show might be.
Rumors Of Replacement
Rumors of replacing Whitmore surfaced last year, other replacements to be considered were Maura Higgins, Arielle Free, and Maya Jama, the former islander.
The network ITC had to come forward to put an end to the rumors. They said, “Laura has done a fantastic job at the helm of the show this year and no discussions have yet taken place with regard to the next series.”
Love Island is a successful tv show where a group of men and women come together to participate in a number of tasks with a different partner each time. They keep changing their partners until they can find someone whom they believe is the love of their life.
The show originated in the United Kingdom in 2005 as Celebrity Love Island. Since then, it has turned into a British version in 2015, but there are other international versions as well.
