Kodi Smit-McPhee has announced his engagement to longtime girlfriend Rebecca Phillipou, who is also an Australian. In a rooftop proposal in their hometown of Melbourne, Australia, the 26-year-old Oscar-nominated actor proposed to his longtime girlfriend on Friday, December 2.
On his Instagram Story, Kodi shared a picture of himself on one knee and putting a ring on Rebecca’s finger. There was also a picture of Rebecca looking shocked in the picture.
One source says after Kodi surprised her by slipping a magnificent ring on her ring finger, “She was so surprised, but completely over the moon. They’ve been a couple for almost nine years, and after purchasing a home together last month, they are ready to take the next step in life together.”

Several reports have stated that Smit-McPhee and Phillipou have known one another and began dating at some point in their high school years. There was also a report, published in March 2022 on Pure Wow, that Phillipou had posted her boyfriend’s picture on her Instagram handle for the first time in 2013 when they first met. However, the actor was still in his teenage years at the time, approximately 17 years of age to be precise, when he starred in the film.
It was revealed in an interview with Variety in February 2022 that Smit-McPhee was planning to have his girlfriend with him throughout the awards season and even take her along as his plus-one to attend the 94th Academy Awards as well.
As promised, the 26-year-old actor was spotted with his beau at several awards shows this year, including the SAG Awards 2022 and the 94th Academy Awards. He had taken his girlfriend to several awards shows and red carpet-events, but it was not the first time he had done so.
During the premiere of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 2014, Smit-McPhee and Phillipou were the first couples to walk the red carpet together when both of them attended the premiere. The tradition of getting together has continued at public events since then, and it has become a tradition that has stuck.
