After a long wait of two years, Jujutsu Kaisen is finally coming back with its second season. The release date for the new season has been announced, along with the launch of the first trailer.
The anime show, which first premiered in 2020, follows the life of a schoolboy named Yuji Itadori, who eats the finger of the cursed spirit Ryomen Sukuna and accidentally begins to share a body with him. Read on to watch the trailer and know the release date of the upcoming season.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Release Date Announced with New Trailer
Jujutsu Kaisen is all set to return to the screens on July 6, 2023, in Japan. The announcement was made at the AnimeJapan 2023 convention. The makers of the show also unveiled a trailer for the new season in their presentation, which showcased fan-favorite scenes from the manga and some hilarious moments.
In the visual, Gojo & Geto are also seen in their personalized school uniforms, which teases that the new season will explore their backstory in detail and viewers will get to see their time at Jujutsu High.
The second season will premiere on the MBS and TBS local networks in Japan, along with 28 affiliated channels. Internationally, the show will be available to stream on Crunchyroll, which will provide English subtitles. However, the release date of the Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 on Crunchyroll has not been announced yet.
The Upcoming Season will Feature Gojo Satoru’s Past Arc and Shibuya Incident Arc
The first part of the second season will focus on Gojo’s past arc. “Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto have been assigned a mission to escort the Star Plasma Vessel to Master Tengen. When they’re ambushed by Toji Fushiguro, a mercenary known as the Sorcerer Killer, will Gojo and Geto survive?,” reads the manga arc description.
In the second part, the Shibuya Incident arc will be explored, which focuses on Geto’s plan to entrap all civilians in Shibuya station. “October 31st arrives, and Suguru Geto’s plan is in motion. A curtain is cast to trap civilians in Shibuya, with many of them begging for one man, Satoru Gojo! Multiple squads of sorcerers are dispatched to the scene,” says the arc description.
The First Season Featured 24 Episodes
Much like the debut season, the upcoming installment is also expected to feature 24 episodes, which will air on Crunchyroll outside Asia. The synopsis for the show by the streaming platform reads, “Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life.”
“One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna.”
“Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back,” it reads further.
